Nitro Nights: Mods in Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa

Some games seem to never die. In the world of racing, Assetto Corsa is certainly one of them. The sim has already maintained its popularity for six years.

Assetto Corsa‘s ability to stay relevant is particularly impressive, as a sequel already exists with Assetto Corsa Competizione. Nonetheless, Assetto Corsa keeps its hold on a passionate fanbase, and it is these fans who hold the key to its success. The platform is without comparison in supporting the efforts of a passionate modding scene. Take a look at our video to see how that looks in detail.

Forever young

One of the biggest benefits of a supportive modding scene is up-to-date graphics. Thanks to shader-expansions, weather effects and a very potent modeling tool, in-game car models and tracks still look amazing. Aside from graphics, mods deliver tons of mostly free content. Starting with rather serious content like tracks from the real world, which are not supported natively by the game, to funny and creative fan service – content-wise Assetto Corsa is probably beyond compare. Nowhere else can you find a Fiat Multipla GT3 version like this!

Help yourself, then surpass others

Modding allows Assetto Corsa the opportunity to be the playground other sims cannot be. Free roam areas are only one example. Funny car creations racing it out in a Lego world is also a possibility. Fans regularly prove to have a stunning sense of detail. Content creator Aarava showed a Mario Kart mod on YouTube in April 2020, which was falsely declared as official Mario Kart content by the platform.

Other modders created all the missing F1 tracks, which were hastily added to the schedule after the race calendar was altered due to the corona pandemic. While the official game F1 2020 by Codemasters couldn’t provide that, Assetto Corsa fans were already on track. As long as other sims don’t support modding to this extent, Assetto Corsa will continue to reign over this niche for much longer.
