Mack Bakkum: The pink lightning

Mack Bakkum: The pink lightning

Mack Bakkum lives and breathes Sim Racing. From dawn till dusk, nothing stands between him and his passion.

For Mack Bakkum, there is no downtime. Even while sitting at the dinner table with his teammates, the topics discussed over the cooked meals are their last races. If you made a crucial mistake, you can be sure: Here you are reminded of it again. The 26-year-old lives together with other drivers like Josh Rogers and Mitchell Dejong in the Coanda Simsport Teamhouse in Germany, where nothing stands between him and the best possible lap times.

High-level racing since over half a decade

Mack’s high-level racing expertise began in 2013 when he started his racing career in the British organization of Radicals Online. At the end of 2016 he then found his home at Coanda Simsport where he stayed ever since.
The Dutchman is a known face at the iRacing 24h Le Mans LMP, which he won two years in a row. And this year he even drove in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual.

The curse of his favorite color

Even though Mack loves the color pink, it has never shifted the outcome of a race in his favor. If he gets the choice, you can bet that he is going to drive a pink car. This goes as far as his computer having the matching colored light. But despite his commitment to this color scheme, in the end it has never worked out in his favor.
Till today, he has never won a race driving a pink car.

If the 26-year-old isn’t competing in his rig, you can find him teaching other people how to drive. And it’s not only complete newbies who use this service. Even one of his competitors in the Porsche Tag Heuer Esports Supercup was coached by him.

This week he was also our guest on Nitro Nights and talked a bit more in-depth about his life in the team house, as well as his coaching experience.
