Japanese esports racer Takuma Miyazono claimed the title as fastest Gran Turismo driver in the world by winning the FIA Gran Turismo Championships Nations Cup last Sunday, 20 December. He was also part of the trio that won the FIA Gran Turismo Manufacturer Series for Subaru and previously won the GR Supra GT Cup as well. With these three titles, Miyazono closes the year with a blast as first driver ever to win the GT Grand Slam.

16 of the world's best drivers competed in the Grand Finals of the Nations Cup. Over three races, the participants collected points that were added on top of their World Tour Points.

It was a close series between champion Miyazono and runner-up Valerio Gallo. The Italian Williams Esports driver finished first in two of the races, but fell short in round 2. The final standings saw Miyazono on top with 45 points, closely followed by Gallo with 42 points. Japanese Ryota Kokubun completes the podium with 29 points in total.

The final podium:

An emotional Grand Final

Miyazono brought strong results throughout the entire year by scoring the first place in the World Tour 2020 – Sydney, the Asian Nations Cup Online Series and the Asia-Oceania Regional Finals. The title as Nations Cup champion is now the cherry on top – but Miyazono did not expect to win as he revealed in the post-match interview. The humble winner explained that when crossing the finishing line second, he didn't know the final score and was unhappy that he only was second in the race. However, now that he has realized his achievement, he states he is glad that it is over and still can't believe it.

Runner-up Gallo is just as happy about his outstanding performance as he shared on Twitter. He states he is shivering from the fact that he is one of the best Gran Turismo players in the world and says he is nearly speechless as his head is a river of emotions.
