Shane van Gisbergen displayed a remarkable performance in Round 7 of the stacked BP Supercars All Stars Eseries in iRacing. He bested his rivals in all three races of the round. The Red Bull Holden Racing Team won both 35-lap races at Charlotte Speedway and both races at Daytona. Overall, the 31-year-old placed first in nine of the 23 races so far.
However, he took the first two victories only be the skin of his teeth. Van Gisbergen finished the first race only as little as 0.017s ahead of runner-up Cameron Waters, while trumping Anton De Pasquale by 0.101s in the second one. In the final round, there was no stopping the New Zealander: He crossed the line before his fiercest competitor Chaz Mostert.
Despite his success in the virtual series, van Gisbergen admitted that he desperately wants to go back to real racing in the post-race interview:
I’m looking forward to the real stuff. This has been fun in the meantime, but hopefully I can go back to Australia soon and we can go back to racing.
Not Lando Norris’ day
The participation of F1 pilot Lando Norris gained much attention before the race. At Charlotte Speedway, he turned out as one of the top contenders. However, in lap 17 the Brit spun. As a result he lost some time being stuck in the wall.
In the end, he had to be content finishing 18th. The race-19 winner wasn’t able to stage a comeback in the two rounds after that, placing 14th and 27th.
