ESL R1 is a brand new championship held on the new racing sim Rennsport and organised by ESL. With a €500,000 prize pool spread across two seasonal splits, and a structure allowing for the all-important Major to crown the seasonal champion.
The season consists of eight individual events, the season opener hosts the first two rounds and will be held onsite at the Intel Extreme Masters Expo in Poland, the next seven rounds are held online. Each round is structured with seven individual races: four quarter finals, two semi finals and a final, of which there are always twelve drivers and the best six progress to the next stage. The online rounds have the quarter finals run on Friday and then the semi finals and final on Monday.
After the eighth round, the best 24 drivers qualify for the Spring Season Major held onsite at the site of the first Rennsport summit in Munich. All competitors are put into two groups of twelve, the best six after their group’s four races move progress to the following day, and then the final twelve drivers battle out to be season champion.
The lead driver in the points is given 100 points and the remaining eleven are given the same percentage of points they were behind the points leader. Then there will be an unlimited number of races as drivers will work to get to 175 points and enter into Finalist Mode, and then once a driver does then all they have to do is win a race and they become season champion.
