Now in its sixth season, F1 Esports is back with all ten teams fielding three drivers in their roster. With one race per day and the races being upped to 50% race distance, there are plenty of changes made to potentially make this the most interesting season of F1 Esports in a long time.
Before each race, teams nominate two of their three drivers to compete, with some teams electing to race only two drivers in the whole season or dividing the seat time across all three. The car performance is set to equal so every car performs the same, therefore it’s all down to the driver.
Drivers race for points in both the individual driver’s championship and also the team’s championship in which the teams get a portion of the $750,000 prize pool.
Each event starts with qualifying, mirroring the real life F1 with Q1-Q2-Q3 style knockout qualifying. Following that is the 50% distance race in which drivers must complete one mandatory pitstop and use two different tyre compounds.
The qualifying is broadcast on F1’s official Twitch and YouTube channels as are the races, but they can also be seen on the official F1 Facebook page and relevant country’s broadcasters for F1. The schedule is as follows:
Rd 1: Sakhir – 14 September
Rd 2: Imola – 15 September
Rd 3: Silverstone – 16 September
Rd 4: Red Bull Ring – 12 October
Rd 5: Spa-Francorchamps – 13 October
Rd 6: Zandvoort – 14 October
Rd 7: Monza – 2 November
Rd 8: Mexico City – 3 November
Rd 9: Austin – 4 November
Rd 10: Suzuka – 14 December
Rd 11: Interlagos – 15 December
Rd 12: Yas Marina – 16 December
Instructions on how to potentially get involved in F1 Esports are on the official F1 game, with most potential drivers going through the F1 Esports Challengers series or the online Time Trial qualifications. The top six Challengers drivers and top three Time Trial qualifiers per platform are invited to participate in the Pro Exhibition under the watchful eyes of F1 Esports teams.
