A truly global series
The three championships are designated by their respective region: Europe, Asia or America. The events for each region are scheduled to take place between May and October, and will consist of two different types – Sprint Series events and Endurance Series events.
Sprint Series
The Sprint Series events on each continent will be determined by hot-lap qualifying. They are aimed at individuals, so 44 drivers will compete in races that last 60 minutes and include a mandatory stop. A total of ten events will make up the European series, with America and Asia each contesting five.
Endurance series
Unlike the Sprint Series, the Endurance series is for leading esports teams so expect the standard to be high. Each team will consist of three or four drivers, with driver changes being mandatory during the long-distance contests. The jewel in the crown for the European region will be the first ever Total 24 Hours of Spa, which is scheduled for 7-8 August. For a more detailed overview of the schedule, visit the GT World website.
A “significant prize pot” is on offer
Entrants to the series are required to pay an as-of-yet undisclosed entrance fee. In turn, this will fund “cash prizes” that successful teams and drivers can earn over the course of the season, culminating in a “significant prize pot” for the overall victor in the “global finale”. The exact amount is yet to be declared though. If you feel up to the challlenge, you can pre-register at www.sro-esports.com.
If spectating is more your thing or you simply want to sit back and learn from the pros, then you are covered too. Each event will be streamed live across YouTube, Twitch and Facebook.
