In this day and age, buying a game can feel like a significant decision making process. This is certainly true for F1 2021 as not only is the game rather expensive, but there is the option of two different editions as well! Here, we will break down the differences between the basic pre-order bundle and the Deluxe Edition, so you can work out which is the best option for you.
Should I Pre-Order the base game?
In an effort to get players to pre-order F1 2021, Codemasters and EA have thrown in an incentive for those who do so. This takes the form of 5,000 PitCoin – the in-game currency which can be used to purchase items in the shop or to gain VIP access on Podium Passes. 5,000 PitCoin isn’t a huge amount, but if F1 2021 continues to give bundles of PitCoin as rewards in the free section of the Podium Passes, then you can save up enough to get VIP access on either the first or second Passes.

Of course, the base game content will also be included. This is made up of everything you have come to expect from F1 games, such as My Team, online multiplayer, time trial mode and so on. On top of this, the Braking Point content pack will also come with the game. This content pack includes peripheral cosmetics related to the new Braking Point story mode, the biggest addition to the newest game in the series. Liveries, helmets and even victory radio voices will be included in the content pack.
What about the Deluxe Edition?
So much for the base game, then, but what will shelling out some extra money earn you? For starters, Deluxe Edition purchasers will receive the My Team Icons pack. This pack, which was announced with the Deluxe Edition trailer a couple of weeks ago, includes seven legendary drivers who you can include in your My Team career. These drivers are: Michael Schumacher, Felipe Massa, Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Nico Rosberg, Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. On top of the drivers themselves, the pack also includes helmets, liveries, radio calls and more from the Icon drivers.

In addition to the My Team Icons, those who spring for the Deluxe Edition will receive 18,000 PitCoin. In F1 2020, this amount would be enough to purchase two VIP Podium Passes, and if prices stay the same then this will be the case in F1 2021 too. Even if prices rise a little, 18,000 PitCoin is a significant chunk to get you started in the new game. Finally, Deluxe players will get access three days before those who pre-ordered the base game.
If these rewards don’t appeal to you, then that’s fine. You can simply wait until the game is released and purchase it as usual. Weigh up how much these potential rewards are worth to you before pre-ordering or purchasing the Deluxe Edition, and make a careful decision on what you want to do.
