First round of PESC offers huge surprise winner

takes his first ever victory at the opening round of the Porsche Tag Heuer Esports Supercup.

Would you believe that after a breath-taking last season of the 2021 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup this one could be even more exciting? Well, it is!

Starting off the race-day at the Brazilian Interlagos was the All-Star race. In two heated rounds, content creators fought for on-track glory. While the racing was respectful and enticing to watch, some were on the less lucky side. Especially Jimmy Broadbent, who made contact with a spinning Boosted Media in race two. Very much to the amusement of commentator Matt ‘Sadokist’ Trivett.

In the end, the sprint race went to the special guest Matt Campbell, while the featured race victory was secured by Emily Jones, who also won the first All-Star event last season.

After that, it was game on for the field of the 2021 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup, which features some well-known sim racers such as Joshua K Rogers and last year’s winner Sebastian Job

Rogers out for gold

Qualifying saw a well-known face return to the top of the leaderboard. The Quali-King Joshua K Rogers showed the world why he is called exactly that. After a monster lap, he took sole possession of pole position. Fellow Aussie Dayne Warren came close to crashing the party, but was just short of a surprise and landed in second place.

Thanks to adjusted rules, qualifying now allows for a fairer sprint race. Previously the drivers would start in a reversed grid order for the sprint race. That has now been shifted to the main race, and the sprint race results determine the order.

This meant rather smooth sailing for Joshua K Rogers in the sprint. He secured a start-to-finish victory alongside Dayne Warren, who managed to cling onto P2.

A race for the ages

The wait was finally over when the lights went green for the feature race afterwards.

Right off the bat, the battles began. The front three drivers Kevin Ellis Jr., Alejandro Sánchez and Charlie Collins relentlessly went at each other for the top podium spot.

A little further down the order Joshua K Rogers started to climb his way back the top and squeeze himself into fourth place to attack the front three.

Unfortunately, an attack from Joshua K Rogers led to a crash between him and Alejandro Sánchez. Both racers were booted down the order and it was damage limitation from there on.

A silent star of this race was Maximilian Benecke. The returning top-driver climbed his way up from 12th position to put himself into a good position to go for the win. Things were heating up going into the final lap as Kevin Ellis Jr. was still in the lead.

In the end an overwhelmed Kevin Ellis Jr. took home his first ever feature race win in Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup history.

Legends fallout

After the race Joshua K Rogers took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the round. It is extremely unlucky for the Australian, but he will be looking to rectify the situation in the upcoming rounds.

Meanwhile, last year’s champion Sebastian Job preferred to stay quiet after an unlucky two races for the current title-holder. The Englishman only managed 12th place in the sprint race. Due to a technical issue, he had to retire the car in the main race. He was running eighth at that time. Certainly not the season start that last year’s champion was hoping for.
