DTM will hold a esports racing tournament in May. The DTM esports Classic Challenge features classic DTM cars and professional racers.
The German racing series DTM decided to hold multiple virtual races over the course of May, as the start of the 2020 season will be delayed due to the coronavirus.
In cooperation with RaceRoom, the organizer of the famous racing series starts the DTM esports Classic Challenge tournament. It will be the first official DTM esports racing event.
Classic cars and professional DTM drivers
The tournament consists of four rounds and a bonus race, taking place May 3-31. In each round, 15 past and present DTM drivers as well as racing influencers will compete against five sim racers. The five drivers will be randomly chosen from the top 100 qualifiers of each round. The tournament runners haven’t announced which drivers and influencers are going to participate yet.
Each round will feature different DTM cars. The first one is going to be the most historical using cars from the 1992 DTM season, such as the legendary Audi V8 quattro and the BMW M3 Sport. The qualifier for the first round kicks off this Monday, April 27, in RaceRoom.
These are the dates for the DTM esports Classic Challenge tournament:
- Sunday, May 3 – Round 1 with 1992 DTM cars
- Sunday, May 10 – Round 2 with 2013 DTM cars
- Sunday, May 17 – Round 3 with 2014 DTM cars
- Sunday, May 24 – Round 4 with 2016 DTM cars
- Sunday, May 31 – Bonus race TBC
All rounds start at 2 pm CEST. You will be able to watch the events live on the social media channels of DTM and RaceRoom.
