The racing simulation rFactor 2 adds another traditional circuit to their portfolio: the laser-scanned Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is now available in-game, as rFactor and Studio 397 announced on social media this week.

Driving on a legendary track

The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is located in Stavlot, Belgium. Spa most notably is the venue for the Belgian Grand Prix in Formula 1. However, the track also serves as the location for various endurance races, such as the 24 Hours of Spa or the Uniroyal Fun Cup 25 Hours of Spa.

The first Grand Prix on this legendary circuit took place in 1925, though the track has been changed many times since then. Nowadays, Spa has a length of 7.004 km (4.352 mi). Record holder for the fastest lap is Finnish Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas who mastered the circuit with a top time of 1:46.286.

What makes the circuit so special?

Spa is one of the most iconic and popular tracks in motorsports. The location is rich in tradition, as it was one of the earliest venues for professional races and unlike other circuits, it can host all kinds of racing series.

The course has a quite natural flow, as it was created with real roads that lead up and down a mountain. With a total of 19 turns, Spa is one of the most challenging circuits as several corners are also extremely fast and hard to master. Eau Rouge arguably counts as the most exciting corner in the world: drivers have to go uphill full throttle through an S-shaped series of corners, and the high speeds mean it often provides a potential overtaking spot too.
