In a genre where it's all about being the fastest, measuring yourself against other drivers online is a crucial aspect of any game. We asked you on YouTube and Twitter about your opinion: which racing title delivers the best online experience?

Let's find out what our community voted for and how various popular racing games perform with their online mode.

Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa definitely doesn't have the cleanest online experience, but there are ways to circumvent these issues by using mods and services. Community races from content creators can offer a great experience for example, and the most common places to go are Simracing.gp or Sim Racing System. The latter is the most popular way to find fair races that come with a great safety rating system. The mod is not perfect as the registration process is a bit confusing and you can only compete in one race per hour. Therefore, you weren't too hyped for AC in our poll. But if you already own the game, make sure you use a mod to drive.

RaceRoom

The free to play game RaceRoom is often wrongfully overlooked and didn't get the most love in our vote either. However, we think that a lot of people don't know what they're missing: RaceRoom has a stellar safety rating system with incident points and an online rating. The races are extremely fair as all ranked servers are hosted by the game directly, instead of being an open lobby. We definitely recommend checking the title out!

Assetto Corsa Competizione

ACC is the number one sim in many aspects for a lot of sim racing enthusiasts. Not in the category "best online service though": the open lobby servers can become chaotic pretty quickly. Players can join different servers by having the necessary safety rating number. However, this number can be boosted easily in offline races, so it does not guarantee clean driving.

iRacing

The top spot in our voting goes to iRacing! Around 50% of you voted for the title, and with good reason. The servers run smoothly, the overall rating is appropriate and fair, licensing classes feel real and unsportsmanlike behaviour gets severely punished. All opponents are at the same skill level. You also need to beat your personal best to rank up, instead of simply beating your opponents, which can be a difficult mission on an unfair grid. The biggest downside of iRacing is the monthly costs that come with the subscription service. Those players who can afford it should definitely compete in iRacing.
