Fancy a new avdenture in virtual racing but don't know which game to get? Here are the current top-sellers in the category "racing" on Steam.

What do you think, which one is the most popular racing game on Steam? We collected an overview of the best-selling titles. Some of these titles are also included in the Steam Summer Sale, which might have had an impact on the sales figures.

Please note: the games in the top 10 list and their order regularly change. The titles in this ranking show the games which were on top on 5 July 2021. Nonetheless, this should give you a great overview on what most racing fans are playing on Steam at the moment.

10: Wreckfest

Driving safely and following all rules is great fun, but sometimes, you need to blow off some steam. Wreckfest features several game modes, including the iconic demolition derby. While you also drive on a track and aim to finish first, your number one priority along the way is to survive the attacks from your opponents.

9: CarX Drift Racing Online

The name is the game: in CarX Drift Racing Online, you're drifting with sports cars online against strangers or friends – surprise! Drifting is the key element as you're literally constantly pulling your handbrake, drifting around or pulling some donuts on the track. The game also features over 50 different cars to tune and customise.

8: F1 2021

The newest part of the virtual Formula 1 series is not even out yet and already ranks among the top-sellers on Steam. Sticking to tradition, the game portrays the current F1 season where you can either drive as the official teams and drivers, or create your own protagonist and racing organisation. The 2021 version also features several F1 icons to choose from, such as Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher. The official release date is 16 July.

7: BeamNG.drive

BeamNG.drive is not your typical racing game. The vehicle simulator features soft-body physics, simulating realistic handling and damage to vehicles. There are several game modes available, such as campaigns, time trial and free roam. Players can alter these levels by changing objects in the course or factors such as gravity. This allows you to create your own scenarios and test out the marvellous physics of the game.

6: F1 2020

We've already talked about F1 2021 and its predecessor also ranges among the list of top-selling titles. The same concept applies to this version as it portrays the 2020 season of Formula 1. The two-player mode also made a welcome return to the series, and French driver Anthoine Hubert is also remembered in the game after losing his life in the 2019 F2 season.

5: SnowRunner

Snowrunner is an off-road simulation game where you need to deliver cargo to different places. Your commute is however not a boring street or highway to the next city – you need to drive through various terrains such as snowy mountains, overgrown hills or muddy forests. Next to the vast sandbox locations, the physics and damage system are the selling point. Completing missions grants money to unlock new vehicles which make it easier to plough your way tough nature.

4: Assetto Corsa Competizione

The racing simulation Assetto Corsa Competizione showcases the 2018 and 2019 Blancpain GT Series season Sprint and Endurance Cups and the Total 24 Hours of Spa. The game features an offline career, custom championship and races, as well as an online multiplayer. The latter mode is crucial as ACC counts as one of the bigger esports disciplines.

3: Need for Speed Heat

This edition of Need for Speed takes place in a fictionalised version of Miami called Palm City. You can switch between day and night, driving either in sanctioned racing events or illegal street races. When illegally racing, the player will attract the full fury of the local police force, which ends up in a pursuit. Aside from the main story, smaller side missions and time trials are also available.

2: Grand Theft Auto V

In theory GTA V is an action-adventure game. With the many elements of driving around and "lending" different sorts of vehicles, it still shows up in the racing game category. We are back in San Andreas and Los Santos, controlling three criminal protagonists through various missions to commit heists. Despite the game being released eight years ago, it is still incredibly popular. One reason is its roleplay mode where fans can jump into user-created RP servers. 1: Forza Horizon 4

The open world of Forza Horizon 4 takes you to a fictionalised United Kingdom. You can complete races in the campaign, unlock and collect over 700 licensed cars, explore the vast area, create your own routes, drive against others and much more. The game is also known for its dynamic weather change system that also changes the seasons. For example, when it gets winter in FH4, there is a lake that completely freezes over, which allows you to explore addition corners of the map.
