Over the last few years, the number and variety of esports competitions within the world of racing games have expanded considerably. This has recently extended to mobile games as well, with the likes of F1 Mobile Racing hosting an esports tournament back in 2020. Before that came the arrival of Asphalt 9 esports tournaments, dating back to 2019 and the Asphalt Esports Series which had its grand finale at gamescom.

If you've never played it, Asphalt 9 is free to play on both iOS and Android, and features tilt controls, I. E. you turn your phone like a wheel to control the car. However, there is also a TouchDrive feature, which means that you don't have to control the game in that way if you don't want to. Tilt controls are most certainly not everyone's cup of tea, so this is a nice addition to the game.
