Automobilista 2: Sebring Teaser Released, Includes Alpine

Automobilista 2 update v1.6 is eagerly awaited by sim racers. A new teaser shows Sebring for the first time, as well as the Alpine A424 LMDh.

Reiza Studios are hard at work. Their initial "Road To v1.6" dev update was intended to have a second part to follow soon - which then turned to two further parts. Neither of them have been released yet as the team behind Automobilista 2 prioritize working on the sim itself rather than the dev updates.

However, the news that Reiza had struck a licensing deal with Alpine made headlines in early August, as did a preview of content to be included in the big v1.6 update. This did not reveal everything, of course, and only Road Atlanta had been officially confirmed to be joining the sim to expand the IMSA calendar.

First Sebring Shot

A new forum post by Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni now includes Sebring for the first time. The iconic venue of the 12 Hours of Sebring is, of course, part of the IMSA calendar and looks set to be part of the 1.6 update. The track's main straight and pit building are shown at night, with fireworks on display in the night sky - most likely a new feature as well.

On track, two Porsche 963s can be seen roaring past the pit building, accompanied by an Alpine A424 in between them. The LMDh Hypercar may not be racing in IMSA, but thanks to the shot, it would appear that it is en route for the incoming update as well.

As Reiza does not give deadlines for releases anymore, summer 2024 has been mentioned as a broad release window. Depending on your definition, summer is close to ending in September. But as always, patience is needed, especially with the amount of work that goes into the update.

Either way, Simioni's forum post also mentions that it "won't be long for fireworks" - whether that means the next part of the dev update, the v1.6 update itself, or even both remains to be seen.

you guys are a ****ing plague.
He's not wrong, though. These 'game changing' and 'innovative' updates are typically just marketed to be that way but in reality, they're pretty subpar and do not change the experience much. The AI in 1.6 is probably just going to be just as *bad* as all the other updates where they've promised improvements. It's hard to polish a turd that is the madness engine...

Since when YouTubers fantabulous statements and cringeworthy thumbnails are the studio's fault? No matter what game are we talking about.

I always thought the AI was one of the best on the market, they give you a proper race and really fight you back.

Why always the same discussions.
If you don't like the game don't play it.
It's the year 2025 on the internet. Everyone thinks its opinion is the right one and believes that has to have an opinion for everything "because free of speech" unless you criticize something widely accepted, then you're the bad person.

Will this Sebring be as bumpy as our beloved rFactor 2's version?

By the way, has the release date of v1.6 been said already? Didn't read much, too busy, sorry...

If you hate AMS2 now you will probably still hate it whatever they do.
Great lines from @mcroshaw
Xela1 greetings
This, AMS2 is my favorite sim by far, and 1.6 is a definitive improvement. But changing the minds of those of the opinion that the ME has no fix is like trying to convert an Apple fanatic to Windows or Android, it's gonna be nigh impossible.

The cars will have a more limited window to recover them from slides, but much like in real life, you can still recover from some wild slides but it's more because of luck or incredibly quick reactions/control.

I recently drove an entry level Kart (45mph top speed) and was able to slide that little bastard all around the track (with god knows how old tires) without spinning once. Now I am not saying driving racing cars are easy (specially reaching and maintaining their limits), but the old way of sims being more "realistic" the harder they were is just an outdated way of thinking.

All racing cars are drifting around the tarmac, some are more visible than others, a good example is to watch Max qualifying lap in Zandvoort how he drifted in Hans Erns Boch, in what I think was his last lap. I feel AMS2 captures that feeling perfectly and 1.6 improves on making it less forgiving but in a realistic way.

rF2 is my sim of choice, I just find driving challenging but also fun.

Still play and love R3E, LMU, AC and some BeamNG.

Really want to like AMS2. For me it's fun without the 'challenging' aspect of rF2 - totally subjective I know - I'm not an expert, I don't pretend to be, but I'd just like it to be a little less forgiving.

Hope this 1.6 update does things for me, I'd love to play it more and more, especially as the content it provides is huge and varied.

Strange. I have no access to 1.6 yet but i drive allot the Brazilian Stock Cars. The 2024 Edition has already the 1.6 upgrade is this right??
Because the only big difference that i feel with them is - the tires wear out much faster, so you´re loosing grip much earlier. In fact with 1.5 i could end a sprint race without notice big tire wear at all. So yes it´s a improvement, no question, but a game changer ? Let´s wait and see.
Beside that the cars feels for me exact the same as the 2022 or 23`versions.
Yeah, the 2024 Stock cars and the 2024 f1 (I can't remember what it's called). TBH, I can't tell the difference between these cars and the previous ones.

The sliding mid-corner in mid to high speed in high-downforce cars like the LMh is the one thing I really want dialed back. It's so strange - and basically encourages over-driving because the punishment on the front tyres from both a grip and temperature perspective is minimal when driving in this fashion. James Baldwin made this point in a video of his and he's absolutely correct.

I still love the game though, and by all accounts the new version does indeed majorly change tyre feel - which could be huge. It's the best optimized of all sims (low bar, even AC with RSS/VRC cars with CSP physics stutter at the start, ACC/RF2/LMU a trash fire), has top-of-the-line FFB (AC still my favorite with the gyro CSP adjustments and easy per-car FFB) and has the best AI out of any sim (another low bar).

I bought Paddock Club because I still have hope for it, even with its disappointing updates in the past and their slow-as-molasses dev time. Reviews of this one have been really good so far, but I'm too lazy to roll over to the beta build. Fingers crossed.
