With recent updates, Studio 397 has propelled rFactor 2 back to the forefront of the simracing market. The BTCC content drops have tied in nicely with the title’s recent addition to Low Fuel Motorsport drastically helping player numbers.

The developer linked to Motorsport Games isn’t done there for 2022. On Wednesday, 21 December, a Christmas bonus content drop will come to rFactor 2 adding a pair of popular cars. Alongside the two long awaited racers will be a plethora of updates, notably improving the BTCC experience.

rFactor 2: BTCC Grid Expands with Vauxhall Astra BTCC

The first car announced for the spontaneous Christmas bonus content drop was the Vauxhall Astra BTCC car. This front-wheel drive NGTC racer will join the already popular BMW, Infiniti, Toyota, Ford and Hyundai.

These cars have proved to be great for racing both online and offline and the Vauxhall shouldn’t be any different. Among others, the Vauxhall Astra is famous for powering Jason Plato through his final season in the national championship. Expect to see a virtual representation of the legend send it up the inside with more than a few door dings.

rFactor 2 Christmas Content drop: 992 Porsche GT3 Cup Car

Joining the Vauxhall in the Christmas content drop for rFactor 2 will be the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup car. This latest iteration of Porsche Cup car has featured in some simracing titles for a while now. iRacing first launched the car over a year ago while Assetto Corsa Competizione‘s Challenger’s Pack brought the car to the GT3-centric title.

But with a full season of BTCC tracks and the new Stuttgart model, players will get to simulate the British Porsche Carrera Cup in rF2. The rear-engine brute is sure to be authentic to the real-world model. Studio 397 teamed up with Carrera Cup Germany racer, Rudy van Buren.

Updates throughout rFactor 2 Ready for Christmas

Aside from plenty of new content, 21, December will bring many updates to the game. The majority of which focus on the BTCC cars. The Balance of Performance of each car is set to see tweaks which should hopefully reduce the advantage of rear-wheel drive cars. The developers are anxious to point out this is a touchy subject and the balance will surely undergoing further tweaking in future updates.

The BTCC cars will also get al the liveries from the 2022 season which will be separate from 2021 skins in the UI. As such, players will get to race individual seasons of the championship in the most immersive way possible.

The updates also prepare the upcoming addition of hybrid power, something as yet missing from the game. In fact, the current state of BTCC in rFactor 2 features the simple Push-to-Pass system seen on many vehicles. This will be replaced by a full simulation of the TOCA hybrid package. Could this mean cars elsewhere in the game will get hybrid powertrains? Perhaps hybrid Hypercars will join the title in the not so distant future.

In a tweet, Studio 397 revealed other pieces of content receiving updates in a few days. Among the list are the Vanwall Hypercar and several tracks. Though no official word has been given as to what these updates include.
