Crossplay Multiplayer Arrives For Assetto Corsa Competizione On Console

Assetto Corsa Competizione

Ever since the release, and subsequent patching, of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, drivers have been requesting crossplay. It’s now here at last, although it excludes PC.

Assetto Corsa Competizione fans on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will now be able to race each other online. It’s arrived as part of a version 1.9.5.5 update.

Cross-platform multiplayer for the current console versions has hit today, 13th December 2023, meaning it should be easier than ever to find a full event.

Currently, there’s no cross-platform invite system or friends list, such as in games like F1 23. Consequently, voice chat is also omitted. However, in the server list, you can now filter by ‘crossplay’, and by default the ‘quick join’ and server list should have the feature enabled.

To be clear, those on consoles cannot play those on PC. These versions seemingly function slightly differently online. For example, they include the ability to host private lobbies natively without renting a server, but total grid sizes are smaller.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions are developed by Untold Games in consultation with original creators Kunos Simulazioni. The current-gen versions are a significant step up over the erstwhile PS4 and Xbox One releases and were a free upgrade to those who owned the 2020 ports.

It follows news that a GT2 DLC pack and the Nürburgring Nordschleife (24h) will be available for the platform in 2024 – although console timeframes are yet to be confirmed – and that the next Assetto Corsa title will hit consoles, but after a PC Early Access run expected in ‘summer 2024’.
