It’s that time of year again! The new Formula One game has been released, available now on all platforms: PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, and PC through Origin and Steam.
Players who pre-ordered F1 22 are able to access it a couple of days before the rest of the playerbase. Those who did not pre-order the game can play on 1 July.
Launch Issues
As is often the case with new games, there have been some gremlins at launch. EA have run into some issues with the release on Steam. It would appear that this only impacts Steam and no other platform or launcher has run into these issues.
What’s New?
There’s plenty for players to sink their teeth into with this year’s F1 game. PC players have access to Virtual Reality for the first time in the franchise’s history, and players can drive supercars from the four major performance brands in F1.
There are also new race modes like the Sprint format, as well as a selection of either cinematic or immersive formation laps, safety car periods and pitstops. Speaking of formation laps and pitstops, in immersive mode it’s now possible to manually navigate the car into the grid slot or pit box.
Finally, there’s plenty of customisation options through the new F1 Life mode. Players can equip their character with casual attire along with the typical racewear, as well as personalising their own apartment with floors, furniture etc. On top of this, players are able to place their supercars around their apartment.

Another big addition is an expansion to My Team icons. The likes of Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button are carried over from F1 2021 but new for this year are 1997 champion Jacques Villeneuve, Red Bull driver Mark Webber and Brazil 2010 pole sitter Nico Hülkenberg.
One notable absence though is 2016 champion Nico Rosberg. The rest of the icons along with the F2 drivers from the 2021 season are all able to be hired for the My Team career mode.
