Romain Grosjean’s relationship with Haas F1 Team is set to continue into 2021, as it has been announced that the French-Swiss racer’s esports organisation will manage the Haas F1 Esports for the season to come. After a tumultuous final season driving for the American outfit, Grosjean’s five-year stint with Haas appeared to have come to an end in the aftermath of his horror crash in Bahrain near the end of the 2020 season. However, with this news, the long partnership looks set to continue.
Grosjean founded his own sim racing team, R8G Esports, in April 2020. The organisation fields drivers in a number of different sim racing competitions. One of R8G’s seventeen professional sim racers, Erhan Jajovski, currently sits atop the standings in Formula E’s new Formula E: Accelerate 2021 competition which launched this year. On top of this, Romain himself has been streaming his own sim racing exploits since his injuries, even participating on behalf of his own team in the VCO ProSIM SERIES tournament.
A brighter future?
A management shake-up will be welcome news for fans of Haas’ F1 Esports Team, as the Americans have struggled to achieve positive results in the last two years of the F1 Esports Pro Series. The eight points that the team managed in 2019 saw them comfortably last in the constructor’s standings. There were signs of improvement in 2020, but the team nevertheless limped home in ninth position overall. With the arrival of new management and potentially a new driver line-up for 2021, there is hope for improved fortunes in the future.
💯💯💯 so I’m sort of still in @F1 ? 🤣 https://t.co/gW6770lynP

It is not yet certain exactly how direct a role Grosjean will be taking in the team’s management. The multiple time podium-sitter’s racing career is still going strong, and he will be competing in IndyCar for Dale Coyne Racing this season. As such, he will have multiple commitments on his plate. Despite this, Grosjean has stated that he is “very happy” to be managing Haas’ esports efforts this season, adding that he is “very much looking forward to the first race and to see what we can build together in esports competition”.
