Fuzo's fantastic Škoda 130 RS's side by side
An unknown to many automotive fans, the Škoda 130 RS was one of the most successful rally cars in the 1970s and 1980s. Thanks to the ingenuity of Assetto Corsa's creative community, this car is available to drive on circuits and rally stages. It just so happens to be one of our website's most highly rated Assetto Corsa mods.

Škoda 130 RS's Racing History

The drivetrain of the Škoda 130 RS was a water-cooled four-cylinder engine with OHV control—nothing out of the ordinary. However, the engine was installed behind the rear axle. The first sales version had a power output of 82.8 kW (112.5 hp) at 7,250 rpm and would eventually produce 05 kW (142 hp) at 8,500 rpm as the track car developed.

'The Porsche of The East', as the Škoda 130 RS was known, had a hectic and chaotic battle with BMW and Audi across the circuits in the European Touring Car Championship throughout the 1981 season. There are stories of competitors holding their heads in their hands and leaving the final round in anger and disbelief when Škoda and racing team, Mladá Boleslav, managed to clinch the 1981 championship ahead of their comparingly rich BMW and Audi competitors.

1981 ETCC Manufacturers Championship

The 130 RS was also a terrific rally car outside the European circuits. Success in the legendary Monte Carlo rally was Škoda's highlight; however, plenty of success on the International and National stages across Europe saw the car take a brilliant 8th overall place at one of the most challenging and gruelling European Rallies against manufacturers and teams that had spent upwards of eight times what Škoda had.

Fuzo's Škoda 130 RS

If you love touring cars and Assetto Corsa, many of you will know the name @Fuzo, one of OverTake.gg's top mod creators. Their CV spans a wide range of touring car classes and niches, and the Škoda 130 RS mod was their fourth uploaded piece on our site and is a personal favourite of mine.

Despite the mod last being updated on May 4th, 2021, the car feels like it has just rolled off a modding equivalent production line!

Optimised for online racing, this version of the Škoda 130 RS is a manual H-pattern-controlled car with a short final gear in its base spec. This allows it to rev to high heaven and sound like you are going at Mach 10 speed whilst only reaching the top end of highway speeds on most circuits.

The car feels planted when you get it right and punishes you sparingly when you do get it wrong. As a classic H-pattern car, this mod would be great for getting used to using a clutch in Assetto Corsa. Perhaps you have picked up a shifter from Moza or Fanatec in the sales. This mod is a great place to get used to using it!

Škoda 130 RS' at an 1980's inspired Silverstone

What separates Fuzo's work from the competition is the level of detail. Above is the list of interactive items on the car, but more than that, the interior is beautifully modelled with realistic materials used on the dashboard, steering wheel, and A-pillars.

The exterior is also top-notch. The quirky rear-engined exhaust setup is brilliantly modelled, and the wide arches and wheels look great. The community has gotten behind the mod, and if the wide selection included in the mod is not enough, many fantastic liveries are available.

Mod Highlights
  • Optimised for multiplayer races
  • Used all possible features of Assetto Corsa and Shader patch
    • Working rear lights
    • Working turn lights
    • Working odometer on the dashboard
    • Animated suspension
    • Animated shifter
    • Animated engine pulleys
    • Animated rear trunk (CSP only)
    • Working wipers and rain support
  • Car physics consulted with real car owners
  • Real skins from real Czechoslovak drivers (thx Racingtech CZ)

I thought this mod already enjoyed so much fame on the AC scene that it didn't need further introduction? :)

Mod on the scene for quite some years now, and nice updates. Really bulls eye modding work :inlove:

And the car itself, I and my schoolmates thought in the 1980s as a really cool car of the unknown behind the red carpet.

Regarding picture of classic Silverstone. Don't remember events from there, but Nürburgring 500km (i.e. Nordschleife old version) from the late 70s, the old Salzburgring, classic Sachsenring and then of course classic Brno.

Tracks that I always enjoy in the 130 RS in VR.

I think with recent drift tires tool mod I have to try some historic Monte Carlo Rally in this all-purpose powerful thoroughbred Eastern European.

@Fuzo your mods are the main reason that I always return to AC. Hope one day you find a good dev team to work with and release your own game and no matter what genre it is, I believe it will be great.

Cheers!

As opposed to some here, I did not know about that car, let alone that it won a championship in 1981. As I was looking where those were racing in 1981, I saw Vallelunga, home of Kunos for while.
Did a single model race there with the AI in VR, at least none of us had any top speed.
Great car, thank you @Fuzo , this is a nice addition to AC.

Thank you guys for all those kind words, I really appretiate it. This car has special place in my hearth, I simply love it and imidiatelly when I learned how to mod AC I wanted to have this car in the sim. I never drove this car in real life (father owned Škoda 110 and my first car was Škoda 120L) but I remember having this car on a poster hanging on a wall im my father's workshop back in the days... I love everything about this car, the curves, the history, the simplicity, the performance... I bought 2 books about this car, I have two 1:18 metal models at home as well and I plan to expand the collection further, there are still some models and books to collect. The real thing is imposible to buy, but it is possible to find some well preserved originals in museums in Czech Republic. I recently saw some replicas racing in Central European historic cup and hillclimb races, so they are still around in some way, and thats really cool.

BTW I created "rally" and "hillclimb" versions as well, they are available at my Patreon...

Reminds me early versions of the mod, I startet out racing the car on Taupo and Hidden Valley, then Bikernieki and Bilsterberg, besides rally hill climb attacks at Mallorca's Sa Calobra climb - picturesque slopes of which I've testet on own body during holidays on a rented race bike (pedal bike, that is).

Twisty tracks like these indeed more suitable for this car of which also doing rally courses back then.

Often wondered how the engine dealt with overheating issues with pedal to the metal along the 3km Döttinger Höhe straight before leaving the gas at Höhenrain, back in the day...

That is a great personal link to the car, thank you for all your hard work!

Because of my fathers work i lived 2 years in Praha early 80`. The first car i remember in my life was Dad´s red Skoda 100. So of course it also has a place in my heart.
