Gran Turismo 7: 18th January Weekly Challenges and Time Trial

Gran Turismo 7

This week in Gran Turismo 7, five new weekly challenge races and a new time trial are now available. Complete them and there are prizes to be earned, like credits and roulette tickets.

It is Thursday which means a new reset in the Gran Turismo 7 weekly challenges, and also a new Sport Mode Lap Time Challenge available for all players. Here is all you need to know if you are planning on tackling this week’s new GT7 limited-time events.

Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges, w/c 18th January 2024

For this week, you will need the following: A road car from UK, Germany, France, Italy or Austria. A road car from Japan. A car with Dirt tyres. A road car from the United States. A Super Formula car.

Here are the events:

  • Sunday Cup 400, Alsace Test Course Reverse – 5 laps – Any road car from UK, Germany, France, Italy or Austria – 1st 7,000 credits (Recommended PP – 400)
  • Japanese Clubman Cup 550, Grand Valley South – 4 laps – Any road car from Japan – 1st 55,000 credits (Recommended PP – 550)

To meet the requirement needed to complete the weekly challenges, third-place finishes are the minimum target. The maximum payout totals to 381,000, which does not include the 50% increase if you manage to earn the Clean Race Bonus. That then totals to 571,500 credits!

As you complete the events, you’ll also earn bonus prizes, which this week are as follows:

  • Complete one event – credit ticket, 100,000
  • Complete three events – credit ticket, 200,000
  • Complete five events – 6-Star Roulette Ticket (car)

Do note that it may be unlikely that you end up winning the American Clubman Cup 700 race if you stick to a car below 700 PP. The AI opponent of reigning GT World Series Nation’s Cup champion José Serrano has a tuned Corvette C8.

The car just walks away from anything you may be driving on the Mountain and Conrod Straights. So if you want to win this particular race, you will need to tune your car or go for something over the 700 PP recommendation.

Gran Turismo 7 Lap Time Challenge, w/c 18th January 2024

Now we come to the not-so-straightforward challenge, the time trial. Within the period that both lap time challenges are available, the times designated will change as more players set better times.

The new time trial for this week is the Honda Civic Type R (EK) Touring Car on the Autodrome Lago Maggiore – East Reverse layout. Whether you own the car already is not crucial, as you will be able to rent it to set your times.

The Maggiore circuit is a firm favourite in the GT community, with its dramatic undulation and flowing corners. In a front-wheel drive car like the Civic, be mindful of understeer and take extra caution into Turn 6. With how deceptively fast it is, you may head straight for the East End configuration’s pit wall.

As ever, reward payouts are on a sliding scale and paid out once entry is closed on 2 February:

  • Within 3% of the world record time – Gold – 2,000,000 credits
  • Within 5% of the world record time – Silver – 1,000,000 credits
  • Within 10% of the world record time – Bronze – 250,000 credits

Remember, throughout the entry period, the target times will get smaller as more people set times. So if you set a time within 3% of the world record time today, by the time the event ends it may not even be within 10%.

Below are the regulations:

  • Entry Period: 18 January 2024 – 6:59 am GMT 2 February 2024
  • Track: Autodrome Lago Maggiore – East Reverse
  • Specific Car: Honda Civic Type R (EK) Touring Car
  • Useable tyres: Racing Hard, Intermediate or Wet
  • BoP/Tuning Prohibited: Low-speed
  • Car settings: Specified
  • Shortcut Penalty, Wall Collision Penalty: Invalidate Time
