Gran Turismo 7 has been announced for PlayStation 5. Polyphony Digital revealed the game at the PlayStation 5 Game Title Showcase broadcast. They showed a trailer of the game as well as first gameplay scenes.

“I think this new Gran Turismo should make fans very happy, especially with the campaign,” Kazunori Yamauchi of Polyphony Digital said on the broadcast. This sounds like Polyphony is putting more emphasis on the campaign mode again. Then we got a first look at Gran Turismo 7.

The trailer features many beautiful GT cars but also gives us a glimpse at some old school models. Our clear favorite part of the trailer is the redesigned version of the track Trial Mountain. It was a circuit in the very first Gran Turismo, but had not been included in the latest sequel, GT Sport.

The gameplay starts in the main menu which looks like a remade version of the GT 4 menu. We see the GT Café, a driving school, and the Brand Central as available options. There is also a point called “Championships”, which hints to the inclusion of the sport mode and the FIA-championships in the new game as well.

We then get an insight into the tuning menu before we come to the highlight of the reveal that displays an onboard drive on Trial Mountains. It looks like Polyphony Digital went back to the original design of the track and only made some slight adjustments like adding a few curbs here and there.

Overall, the game looks stunningly beautiful, as you would expect from a PlayStation 5 game. The level of graphic details seems to be the highest in a GT game ever.

The gameplay gave us a lot of nostalgic feelings and delivers the vibes of GT 4 very much. Gran Turismo creator Yamauchi already teased that the new GT game would be a “combination of the past, present and future” earlier this year.

A release date has not been announced yet.
