With PlayStation 5 consoles still being hoarded by people looking to sell them at inflated prices, many Gran Turismo players were perhaps concerned that they’d not be able to get a PS5 in time for the game’s release.
Well it would seem now that thanks to a leak from GTPlanet, the game will also be available for PlayStation 4. An interview with Herman Hulst – Head of PlayStation Studios – back in June alluded to the possibility of having upcoming games on PS5 also be released on PS4.

Traditionally, Polyphony Digital had always tried to launch two main series Gran Turismo titles for each generation of PlayStation. The first and second versions of the game were released for the first PlayStation, then the third and fourth on PlayStation 2, five and six for PlayStation 3. However with the online racing focussed soft ‘spinoff’ of Sport being the only GT title for PS4, that tradition did not continue.
Will it compromise the PS5 version?
You would think this potential confirmation would be good news all round. However there are concerns as people believe that having GT7 on the PS4 will now mean the PS5 version will be toned down so the gap between each version won’t be as big. It is true that such recent titles that have been released on multiple generations of gaming consoles are compromised by capabilities of the older hardware.
However there are also plenty of games that when released on two generations of gaming system that utilise the hardware capabilities of the more recent console. For example, Grand Theft Auto V when first released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2013, the online counterpart of the game could hold up to 16 players in the lobby. When remastered for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC a year later, online lobbies could house 30 players.
Nothing is concrete just yet but stay tuned for more information as we recieve it.
