From 1:1 scale GT wheels to Formula One replicas, the world of licensed wheel rims in sim racing offers plenty of choice. Here is our list of licensed sim racing steering wheels that are available or soon-to-be-released.

Regardless of which wheelbase manufacturer you use in your setup, or which automotive brand you love, there is almost certainly a wheel rim to suit you if you are looking for an official, licensed wheel. If you love to race GT cars, Fanatec's rich GT and Porsche catalogue is bound to capture your attention. In contrast, if it is Formula One and open-wheel racing you love, perhaps the SF1000 wheel from Thrustmaster's Ferrari replicas is more your style.

Throughout this selection, it is clear to see that Porsche and McLaren hold a majority stake over the other brands, however, the likes of Ferrari and BMW each have a range of fantastic wheel rims on offer as well. The more premium brands like Ascher Racing with their McLaren series and GRID Engineering with the 911 RSR GTE wheel have some eye-watering price tags attached - although that still pales in comparison to Cosworth's offering, which has essentially just been pulled out of a real LMP2, IndyCar or Super Formula racer and made PC-compatible.

On the other side of the scale, Thrustmaster has some very budget-friendly options when it comes to licensed hardware. The best example would be their Ferrari 599XX Evo Alcantara or leather wheel rims, these come in at just under €200!

Thrustmaster officially licensed Ferrari 599XX wheel add-on

You might be wondering why some of Thrustmaster's range is not on this list, especially with their close relationship with Ferrari. The reason for this is that we wanted this list to showcase the very best in licensed sim racing equipment, a lot of the older Thrustmaster entry-level hardware is not designed for modern titles or lacks Force Feedback.

Also not included are wheels that are very clearly based on real designs but without official branding on them as they are not licensed products. These wheels can still be of great quality and built from the ground up, such as the Rosso Racing Audi R8 LMS and Lamborghini Huracan GT3 wheel. Regardless of how good they may be to use, they are not officially licensed and therefore cannot be considered for this list.

When Replicas Push The Limit

One of the most recent features on this list is the Lamborghini wheel from MOZA Racing. This wheel has shown that MOZA is a serious brand with serious intentions. The Lamborghini wheel is a great example of a licensed sim racing wheel, however, it is far from perfect.

The rim comes in at a pricey €1399, and whilst it certainly is a state-of-the-art piece of equipment, that price tag implies near perfection. Check out the video below for the full review of MOZA's second step into the licensed wheel rim world.

This new hypercar wheel is a great competitor in the market of licensed equipment, but it is not breaking any records. The likes of Fanatec are hot on the heels of MOZA with their extensive range of Porsche wheels and the prospect of future Corsair implementation. This level of competition is great for us as consumers, the future is looking bright for those who love the real-life replica wheel rims.

Lists are great so thanks.

What I find troubling going forward is not equipment range but compatibility.
Multiply engines X all base, wheel and pedals combo and the list just gets bigger every quarter.
How much do studios actually invest in this facet / QA.
Frankly with some equipment seems not at all.
Same with VR and triples how many combos do they actually test.

I think it is high time studios of all genre games should have to compile lists of equipment actually tested and certified.

Some of these cost more than a used real car (not a race one of course): still who spends 9K on a gaming wheel?

absolutely I do not care about any license logo or this wheel is a copy exact , used by F1 drivers Max, Lando or Charles. I do want a wheel that suits me the best in budget and use. As being an VR only simmer I prefer to have a full big diameter wheelrim and not an airplane yoke steering you see in modern race cars.
Sure I would also not spend €9k, but, dreaming, if my budget was not any issue, then I would go for a big classic wood-rim chrome and original Petri steering wheel.

I forgot Fanatec's BMW GT2 was a replica. The Clubsport RS used to be a replica as well, but the Porsche branding has been removed and the brown leather was switched out for black leather. Its intresting that Fanatec has so many replica and branded wheels. Sometimes I wonder if they can make a wheel without branding?

Then again, the branded wheels probably sell better than an unbranded wheel, so that's probably the reason?

I get the appeal, but they're not for me.

If you want sim racing to be as close as possible to the real-life experience of driving a race car, then I suppose it does make sense to want to have everything as close as possible to real life, including a licensed wheels with a drink button. Now, maybe a helmet and a window net is a step too far, and having a smoke machine and gas-powered fireplace behind your seat is definitely a step too far.

I see sim racing as its own discipline, with its own requirements. I'd rather have a menu button than a drink button. Therefore, I want my wheel to be as well-suited to the experience of driving a fake car from the comfort of my living room. Leather or rubber, rather than alcantara. No D-shaped wheel, because if you're not cramped for space, what's the point of this compromise?

I don't think one approach is better than the other. You do you.
