iRacing's official Twitter account shared a shot of the rear of a car that appears to be the Mercedes-AMG GT4, hinting at its arrival in the sim soon.
Teasers are a common way for sim racing developers to reveal their current projects while generating social media engagement, and iRacing is utilizing this technique for their own reveals. The latest such unveiling appears to be the Mercedes-AMG GT4.
It didn't take users long to conclude that the Merc might be the latest entry into iRacing's GT4 series, which also includes the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, BMW M4 GT4 and McLaren 570S GT4.
If it is the Mercedes GT4, iRacers will soon be able to purchase a powerful race car based on the popular Mercedes-AMG format used for the ubiquitous Mercedes-AMG GT3 and its successor, the GT3 EVO.
It is powered by a 4.0 liter biturbo V8 engine, which gives it its distinct throaty roar. Power figures come in at an impressive 544 horsepower and 630 Newton-meters of torque. This output launches the Mercedes-AMG GT4 from a dead stop to 100 km/h in comfortably under 4 seconds.
The GT4 may not have been the Mercedes some fans were hoping for, as iRacing's AMG GT3 is due to be replaced in competition with the GT3 EVO, but more vehicle choices in the GT4 classes will be good news for those who race in the series.
