Motorsport Games acquired the license for the British Touring Car Championship.
The British Touring Car Championship will get a new game in 2022. The racing series announced a deal with Motorsport Games on Wednesday, July 29. The game is planned to be released on PC and consoles.
First official BTCC game after more than 20 years
“Finally, I’m proud to say that the huge demand from the BTCC and TOCA game fans is being answered,” says Alan Gow, Chief Executive of the BTCC, in an official press release.
The last official games of the British competition were TOCA Touring Car Championship and its sequel TOCA 2 Touring Cars. They were released in the late 1990s and developed by Codemasters.
After that, BTCC cars appeared in various other games but there was none dedicated to the series anymore.

“Just like the original BTCC/TOCA game, this will be a dedicated BTCC game featuring all the cars, all the teams, all the drivers and all the circuits,” Gow confirms. “It is hugely important to me, our teams, drivers and fans that any new BTCC game reflected exactly what everyone loves about our championship; the incredibly close non-stop action, intense competition and great enjoyment.”
The British Touring Car Championship was formed in 1958 and is one of the most popular racing series in Britain. It sends touring car drivers to ten circuits across the UK.
Experienced team to develop game and esports
The new game will be developed by Motorsport Games who also publish the NASCAR Heat franchise.
Paul Coleman, Creative Director of the studio, is excited to bring BTCC back to the game market. “Many of the staff in our studio have fond memories of the TOCA game series and my first job in the games industry was actually working on TOCA Race Driver 2 as a QA Tester. We have some exciting plans that we cannot wait to reveal,” he teases.
Motorsport Games also acquired the license to establish an associated esport for the game. There is no further information on possible leagues or tournaments.
The company has already been involved in the organization of 24 Hours Le Mans Virtual, #NottheGP and the FIA World Rallycross World Championship.
