PC3 wins “Best Simulation” – Confusion over award

The heavily criticized Project CARS 3 won the gamescom award for the best simulation on Sunday.

Project Cars 3 came out on Friday and was promoted through gamescom on the weekend. Fans of the first two Project CARS games as well as sim racing enthusiasts have critized PC3 for it’s lack of realism since it has been announced.

Ironically, the game’s greatest weakness was awarded with the “Best Simulation” gamescom award on Sunday. Project CARS 3 won the competition against Planet Coster (console edition) and Endzone – A World Apart. The sim racing community questioned the decision on social media.

Angry voices like the one above critisized gamescom for the decision. For Project CARS 3, developer Slightly Mad Studios removed important simulation aspects such as pit stops, tire wear and fuel consumption, making the game way easier to play but also unrealistic. The studio received a backlash in the community which has apparently gone unnoticed by the gamescom jury.

DIRT 5 gets “Best Racing Game” before release

However, Bandai Namco’s latest title did not win the “Best Racing Game” award. DIRT 5 by Codemasters took the trophy, although the game is yet to be released. The third contender for the award was Radical Relocation, an indie obstacle racer made by Iceberg Interactive.
