Following a rocky launch, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s first major patch is out now on all platforms.

After much anticipation, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s launch was a disaster. While it has plenty of potential, server issues and performance problems have continually frustrated the community. As a result, it's not the return to form fans were hoping for after a long 13-year hiatus for the franchise. Thankfully, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown’s much-needed post-launch update has arrived, bringing over 300 fixes to the troubled game.

Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown: First Major Patch Out Now​

Out now on all platforms, the first major patch brings “significant server/network improvements,” addressing login issues, disconnections in lobbies and races, and save issues. Additionally, the patch corrects an issue where meeting points and POI discovery were not saved. There are also some much-needed performance improvements, with the patch notes detailing an “increased global frame rate.”

Furthermore, Solar Crown’s first major update improves steering wheel compatibility and support for ultra-wide monitors for PC players.

Servers/Networks​

  • Significant server/network improvements: fixed login errors, lobbies and races disconnections, save issues & other specific server-related problems.
  • Fixed issue where meeting points and POI discovery were not saved

Performances/Stability​

  • Stability improvements (fixed various crashes and freezes)
  • Performance improvements (increased global framerate while maintaining the same graphics quality)

Graphics/Interfaces(UX/UI)​

  • Added Master setting in graphical options
  • Fixed graphical tearing issue
  • Fix some cases of bad rendering in virtual garage when accessing the pause menu
  • PC Only: Removed displayed menus when enabling Nvidia Ansel
  • Fixed various Live Events UI issues
  • Fix a few "NoLoca" issues
  • Fixed the wrong display of turbo on the HUD.

Audio​

  • Improved environmental sounds
  • Fixed incorrect audio in some languages

Compatibility​

  • Improved support for peripherals (steering wheels, shifters, etc.)
  • Improved support for ultra-wide monitors

Misc​

300+ miscellaneous minor bugfixes
  • Resolved cases of hard lock after the first race of the onboarding
  • Fixed ELO not decreasing when abandoning ranked races
  • Fixed suspension issues on various cars
  • Prevented several instances in which players could drive through NPCs in free-roam
  • Fixed cases where AI would drive in the opposite way after finishing a race.
  • Improved pathfinding of GPS
  • Removed incorrect indication of a race at lvl 3 that should not exist.
  • Updated the price of special edition cars
This only scratches the surface, with the update containing over 300 bug fixes to improve the experience. However, whether this is enough to save Solar Crown and bring players back to Hong Kong Island remains to be seen. The disastrous launch has attracted negative publicity and surely affected initial sales.

Nevertheless, KT Racing will continue supporting Solar Crown with further updates. While the first update primarily focuses on PC, KT Racing confirmed in a recent developer diary that a second patch specifically for PS5 will arrive “a little later” to improve performance and graphics quality. This patch will be “much larger” and requires “more testing,” but a release window was not confirmed.

Requested features such as crossplay and an offline mode were also addressed in the developer diary. Sadly, KT Racing has no plans to add these features yet, although the developer admitted that a solo mode “makes sense.”


Solar Crown’s first patch paves the way for Season 1. Set to start on Wednesday, 2 October, following a delay, Season 1 will feature 60 player levels, 50 clan progression levels, and a free 25-level Solar Pass with cosmetic rewards and a prize car. Later this year, Season 2 will see players return to Test Drive Unlimited 2’s Ibiza Town as part of a free map expansion.

Always online MMO is a reason why I don't buy this game. It's a shame there is no possibility to play offline because I enjoyed KT's games in the past. I can't tell why exactly but they give me a lot of fun:D
 
When is someone going to make one of these with 4 man teams ( crims ) 2man team ( cops ) and lots of guns and at very least believable physics, opening doors hood boot change oil fuel throw bodies in boot.
Cruise huge maps, circuits, drags, dirt, proper street racers, not this childish NFS stuff.
It doesn't need GTA story lines or other BS.

Perhaps a "slim" hope : The Crew 2 and The Crew Motorfest finally (!) obtained an offline mode under pressure from the gaming community, furious at the closure of The Crew 1 servers.
