Sim racing is great for discovering cars and tracks you would otherwise never hear about - such as the Superturismo series from Uruguay. Brand-new Assetto Corsa mods for it are available now.
Are you a fan of door-to-door touring car racing? Welcome to Superturismo, Uruguay's top touring car championship with some of South America's greatest drivers.
Whilst the championship is relatively small outside of its home country Uruguay, the Superturismo championship has been brought to the attention of the Assetto Corsa community by the mod creator @TG Modding . Two cars are available for your racing pleasure, the Audi A1 and the VW Golf TSI.
2024 Superturismo at Mercedes-Soriano, Uruguay
The 2024 grid has a whole reel of hatchbacks from multiple manufacturers. From Citroen DS3s to Ford Fiestas and Peugeot 208s, the variety is plentiful and the racing is close. The perfect combination for a spectator-based touring car championship.
The championship takes place within Uruguay and is the country's top-flight motorsport when it comes to tin-top racing. Naturally, South American drivers dominate the driver lineups with a mixture of Argentinian, Uruguayan and Brazillian drivers taking to the grid.
The cars all use the same engine despite their chassis variety. All competitors run a 2.0L Cosworth Duratec Straight-4, producing 225 hp and mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox.

One rarer aspect of the AC mod version of the Golf is that the front and rear bumpers have deformations when hit in a racing scenario. Visible damage is often just copied and restricted by Assetto Corsa's limitations, but these cars have a slightly different take on minor bodywork damage.

The A1 and the Golf are the perfect combination to introduce this touring car championship to the world of sim racing. We can only hope for further additions from the 2024 Ururguan Superturismo grid from TG Modding to flesh out the grid even more.

The circuit was opened officially in 2010 and has almost exclusively held national events, however, the TC2000 championship from Argentina held a round of their championship at the circuit in 2014 and 2015. The circuit was overhauled in 2023 and it was announced that the circuit would host the sixth round of the 2024 TCR South America season to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Villa Soriano, a town very near to the circuit.

The Golf is one of the more successful hatchbacks in the Superturismo championship. The TSI runs on TOYO R888R tyres. Unlike the Golf, the Audi A1 is a less popular hatchback in the real-life series despite being just as fast. The price to run an A1 Superturismo is considerably more than one of the Hyundai's or even its German counterpart, the VW Gold TSI. hatchbacks in the Superturismo championship. The A1 also runs on TOYO R888R tyres, so the driving experience is very similar. The A1 and the Golf are the perfect combination to introduce this touring car championship to the world of sim racing. Polideportivo Ciudad de Mercedes
Can you race the cars on matching circuits, though? Well, as is often the case with Assetto Corsa, the answer is yes. The Polideportivo Ciudad de Mercedes circuit is available for free thanks to the mod creator, Tincho_47. The track is based in Uruguay and features twice on the real Superturismo calendar, making it the perfect place for the Audi A1 and the VW Golf TSI to go head-to-head in either a single-player race weekend or a multiplayer event.Polideportivo Ciudad de Mercedes.
