There are a lot of games that withstand the test of time, and typically they are ones that provide modding support. These include the likes of Minecraft andThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. There are even standalone games that were originally just mods of other titles. For instance, Half Life 2 was the baseline for games like Garry’s Mod and Counter Strike.
In the world of racing games, the go-to game for mods is Assetto Corsa. The sheer scale and variety of third party mods for this game ranging from cars and tracks of all corners of the community and world is second to none.
Assetto Corsa Mods: Something for Everyone
No matter what type of racing experience you are into, there is an Assetto Corsa mod for it. Want to race on Rainbow Road from Mario Kart? It’s there. Fly a spaceship? You can. Ever wanted to know how it would feel to drive a banana? Neither have we but some modding mad scientist has made it possible in Assetto Corsa.
But of course, we are exclusively talking about the serious, grounded in reality, proper racing content. There’s something here to satisfy any and all avid racing gamers, and that’s why Assetto Corsa has become such a mainstay in sim racing.
In stark contrast, its more streamlined sister title Assetto Corsa Competizione only offers GT3 racing on the tracks that host SRO competition. For many it is a more refined racing experience, but lacking in content. With the follow-up to Assetto Corsa supposedly releasing in 2024, it raises the question as to whether modding will be as integral to the experience.
