The eRace of Champions is back, and this week’s Nitro Nights episode is dedicated to bringing you all of the action.
For the first Nitro Nights episode of 2022, we wanted to bring something a little bit different to the table. As such, welcome to our special Virtual Race of Champions, or eROC, edition of Nitro Nights! That’s right, this episode features all the races in the group stage of the competition. Eight of the best simracers in the world battle it out in a series of one-versus-one matchup to determine who is the ultimate champion and who will represent the world of esports at the Race of Champions itself.
Meet the Drivers
Unsurprisingly, the level of talent on display here is incredible. The very best drivers from a range of different esports racing disciplines are going head-to-head in a snowy arena to fight for glory. But who are these drivers? Well, our first matchup is a fight between Moritz Löhner and Jernej Simončič. Löhner is one of those rare talents to be a contender both in simracing and in the real thing, as the 23-year-old recently took the step from winning the DTM esports series to taking part in the DTM trophy itself! Simoncic on the other hand is one of the very best in the world at simracing, particularly when it comes to rFactor 2.
The winner of the 2021 eROC event James Baldwin makes his return for 2022. Baldwin has been lauded as the World’s Fastest Gamer, has participated in F1 Esports, and most importantly of all, he has joined us in the OverTake studio a couple of times as well! The brit is not the only ex-F1 Esports driver in the ranks. Bono Huis, who absolutely tore up the competition last year in the rFactor Formula Pro Series, is also taking part.
Speaking of F1 Esports, how could we ignore the participation of the reigning two-time champion Mercedes driver Jarno Opmeer, who is also trying his hand on the ice and snow. Will all his experience and prowess on the F1 game series help him here? Perhaps it will be the veteran Kevin Siggy, or iRacing Rallycross champion Jon Robertson, or 2021 virtual World Rally champion Lohan Blanc that will outshine the field? No matter who you’re rooting for, you can take a look at our Nitro Nights eROC special now to find out who made it to the semi-finals in the capable hands of René Buttler and Ben Constanduros!
If you would like to try your hand in the eROC, head on over to the Race of Champions website and sign up for the open qualifiers here!
