Joining us for this week’s Nitro Nights is James Baldwin, to talk with our host Rene Buttler about what he considers to be the most realistic sim racing game.
For our final Nitro Nights of 2021, we thought it was the perfect time to take on what is perhaps the single biggest question in esports racing. Which sim racing game is the most realistic? Which one gives you the best, most accurate experience compared to the real world? To find out the answer to this question, once and for all, we spoke to one of the most qualified people to answer our question, James Baldwin, to get his opinion on the matter.
A Legend in Both Worlds
The reason we chose James to help us to find the answer to this question is that he is an established talent both in esports racing, having competed in F1 Esports and won the World’s Fastest Gamer competition, and also real world racing as James was part of the 2020 GT World Championship. With high level experience at the sim rig and at the steering wheel, who better to tell us which sim is the most realistic?
After catching up a little and taking a look at what the future might hold for James, we got down to the business at hand. First off, what makes a game more realistic than its counterparts? For James, the car physics is the biggest factor here. How the car feels can do more than anything else to convince a player that they are doing the real thing, and that is determined by the game’s physics.
In terms of the cars which are available in the game, James says that Assetto Corsa Competizione is the most realistic option on the market. In particular, the recent 1.8 update has further enhanced the game’s immersion levels by improving the braking system. Trail braking has become an important aspect of the gameplay whereas it wasn’t before. Both iRacing and rFactor 2 come close in James’ esteem, but they can’t knock ACC off of the top spot.
To hear more about what ACC does right, what it does wrong, and about other sims such as iRacing and more, take a look at our latest episode of Nitro Nights now!
