AC frozen for a second or so every now and then

  • i7-3770
  • 16GB RAM
  • GTX970 OC
  • AC installed on SSD
Lowering GFX quality doesn't solve the problem, all drivers are updated. Any ideas how to fix this, please? Doesn't happen in other games like F1 2017, Destiny 2, Heroes of the Storm and so on.

Thanks!

Do you use any GUI addons? Sometimes those can induce stutters, if you use too many or use outdated or shoddily made ones. Does it happen on any car/track, stock or mod?

Using hardware monitoring tools (GPU in particular) can cause stutters. On the other hand you might have a heat problem, the CPU or GPU may downclock itself when it gets too hot. FYI: I'm using nVidia driver 388.31 without problems.

I have the same issue with AC and no other game.

Same here,

Specs my pc:
  • i7-3770
  • 16GB RAM
  • GTX1080
  • AC installed on SSD
Happens on kunos AND mod tracks, pretty annoying when it happens in a corner.
Noticed that it happens mostly in big corners with lots of panning.

Yes, I've experienced this myself.
The last time it was happening, I traced it to SpeedFan (which is bloody useful so it was annoying to have to stop using it). I think it was the SMART data-gathering which screwed up the machine for a fraction of a second very now and then.

Afterburner or not, it happens. Vanilla or not, it happens. Temps are fine, sadly in this case. :)

I think this stutter is a harddrive wait. Some disk block that is mapped but isn't resident yet is wanted but the disk is busy with something else. There might be write activity, which can make this very bad with consumer SATA SSDs. Popular candidates are Steam in the background and other autoupdate mechanisms.

Many (most?) harddrives go completely possum when you retrieve SMART info, you definitely don't want that.

If you have enough RAM then making the game resident by reading it from disk into nothing will help a lot.

Thanks Guidofoc, that helped for me.

Unchecking some apps in content manager (not loading the apps) solved the problem for me. I disabled: AI_Line_Helper, Chat, Crewchief, f12016hud, gMeter. I am not sure which app caused the freezes. But in the future i'll enable them systematically to see which app causes the freezes.

Looks like that's the fix. So far so good after a few hours of driving.
Thanks for your help.

Actually, it seems that CrewChief left some files in other folders and deleting those helped in my case...so my vanilla was only 99.99% vanilla and that caused the issue. :)

Thanks everyone!
