My problem, sound levels fine everywhere, menus etc except in race. Could only just hear engine sounds etc.
After re-installing soundcard drivers, removing and re-install the card numerous times, cleaning the registry between attempts I was completely lost.
I was about to re-install Steam/AC when my son suggested I check Windows Volume Mixer when in a race.
Here is the answer to my issue.
Run ACin a small window instead of full screen. Start a Race.
R/Click the Sound icon on the Taskbar and open Sound mixer.
H/Scroll to the right and there it was, AC volume was set to minimum, thanks Microsoft. I didn't know it had a separate control.
Set the slider to max and everything is great again.
This took days to find so I hope it helps someone else.
