I feel like replacing the stock handle with something like this. What would be the easiest way to attach it to the handbrake? Maybe a piece of square hollow iron bar (2,5 cm x 2,5 cm) and a segment of threaded rod soldered on the end?
This is what I am finally going to do. Since my original goal was to make the handle longer so as to make the handbrake have more travel and also feel lighter to use, I will keep the original handle and I will replace the 2 pieces of steel that connect the handle with the rest of the handbrake and replace them with my own elongated pieces. I have some small pieces of 3 mm thick aluminium lying around at house which will be fine for this mod. I just need to cut them, round the edges and drill them keeping the original distance between the holes (3 cm).
