Fanatec Direct Drive bases. Can you use your own custom wheel.

Does anyone know if you can use your own custom wheel on the upcoming Fanatec DD bases? I have a feeling it might require the inbuilt electronics within the Fanatec wheels but I would like a definitive answer.

That's a big deal, props to Fanatec on that one. I already have a DD wheel so not shopping for one, but this places the Podium in the same playing field with all other direct drive wheels. I would have expected Fanatec to force users to use their wheels, quite a surprise.
