Getting RE-Started with ACC.....

I've had ACC since early release and - TBH - after experiencing severe VR issues with it, I took only a quick look at it back then, and never gave it another thought.

Now, I've made some recent improvements to my hardware and have read many of the recent posts on RD about how much ACC has improved with the latest patch and hotfix. So, I'd like to try it again. - I'm seeking some friendly guidance on how to maximize the chances of an enjoyable journey with it this time. So here are my questions:

1. Which car/track combo is a good one to start out with? Hotlapping is fine at first, but I enjoy racing the AI too.
2. I'm using a TM PC-Racer with Fanatec Peds. Any advice on specific in-game settings for this configuration?
3. What about graphic settings? My PC is i7-7700, 16 GB Ram, Nvidea Geforce 1660, 2TB SSD. What if I add VR to the mix? (Samsung Odyssey+)

FWIW - I have experience racing online in club races here on RD. I'm usually a backmarker  , but not a total beginner either. I run most of the popular sims you see discussed here on RD.

So - any suggestions on getting me started with ACC?

Thanks!
Bert

With the new DLC, I'm currently very much enjoying hotlapping/racing Kyalami in the Ferrari 488. I find it to be the least (technically) demanding track. I also enjoy Misano and Hungaroring a lot.
Regarding the car: this all comes down to personal preference. I might suggest starting out with a mid-engined car. I started career with the Porsche 911 GT3 R, but that definitely made my life difficult. It's not the easiest car.

If you're interested: you should definitely check out the ACC Racing Club! We run 2 races a week (Wednesday and Sunday evening). Format is either 2x30' or 1x45-60' races. We welcome everyone. Don't worry about your pace. At best I'm a midpack runner myself. Clean races is what we aim to achieve.

Hey Bert,

As Denis said, the Kyalami track is a bit of a treat and has a ton of grip too! Nurburgring I think is a good non-DLC track that is not super technical and has all that you should want to get you started.

I would say that the Mclaren 720 is a great car to start with, use the Safe Setup and add one click to the steering ratio which gets it pretty stable whilst you start getting your FFB etc dialled in.

I do love the Ferrari 488 at Suzuka, but this is a low grip track and might frustrate you a little at the start...

Another thing is the AI is ok too, so you might want to learn your limits with regards to how close you can get to cars on track (very very close :) ) and have a bit of fun learning. you can dial in the AI strength and aggro too.

Great suggestions. The McLaren is lots of fun at Nurburgring. One question though...Exactly where do I find the steering ratio to adjust?

BTW - I think I'm going to purchase that DLC pack!

Thanks!

I might give the racing club a go occasionally with the right car/track combo, Thanks. One problem might be that I'd probably have to race in VR because my mic is located in my VR headset, and ACC's VR is still a bit "resource-heavy" for my system. It works well in the rF2 Racing Club here on RD, which I participate in, but rF2 is quite a bit easier on the system.

You can only set a general value for all cars, not individually. It is in the options -> controller setup below FFB strength and dynamic dampening. For GT3 the typical ratio would be somewhere inbetween 540° - 680° I reckon.

Would be great to have a new/additional member to the club!

Teamspeak is recommended (even obligatory?), but I don't have a mic either. I put it up so I can hear others talk, but I only communicate via the in game chat (during the practice session). So you wouldn't have to run in VR as you don't need to have the mic.

Nothing to be ashamed about, we all have to start somewhere right? And you aren't alone, the race club offers a lot of different levels of drivers and as long as you have one car at the same level, you can already have great battles. Heck, we drove a 5 man race last week and had some proper close fighting. I feel like learning from the club is better than the AI, as questions have more chances of being answered than by such a selfish ignorant AI (they never share Intel... Never :()

More than welcome mate!

Recommended only. There has been a moment of obligatory, as chat wasn't working (or I'm confused by AC in its early days) but that has been lifted, so you're more than welcome without working mic

Good to know that TeamSpeak is no longer mandatory, Thanks.

Just for future reference, I accessed the RD server (Bathurst) successfully. However, I didn't see a "Chat" window. So how/where would I access Chat?

Steering ratio makes a massive difference for me in getting stability and it's only one click. Not all cars need this tho...
Only test driven the Porsche on two occasions in ACC but I can see that I would change steering ratio on this car for sure (if I would stick to it, which I don't). With the Porsche I needed much smaller steering inputs and the rear is doing most of the work in medium and fast corners. Especially Spa stood out in that respect. Which means I would choose maybe more like 640° on this one to be more precise and less prone for overshooting when counter-steering for example.
Does that make sense?

Makes sense to me. I also found myself adjusting the steering ratio for the Porsche more than any other car. It seems much more sensitive to steering input so I try to numb it down a little. I don't have enough skill to deal with it otherwise :)

One thing I have never done is to mess with the DOR though. I set the SC2 to 1200 and let the game auto adjust for each vehicle.
