Moza R9 - FFB for a new DD user

I've just got myself an R9. As a new DD user, I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the settings. Any suggestions from more seasoned users?

For example, people seem to set in their sims somewhere below 100%. It seems logical to me that the sims should send 100% and then I reduce to a comfortable level using the Moza software. Are there reasons why everybody doesn't do it that way?

Same sort of thing applies to other settings, but in reverse. I feel like I should set my wheel to have no damping in the Moza software and let the sims decide how to adjust feel for different vehicle types. Is that how most people do it, or do they adjust in the proprietary software too? Seems like there are a whole lot of variables competing with each other if I adjust in the Moza software and in the sims.

I can't help you as I'm in the same boat. My R9 and GS wheel will be here next week and I'm not really sure where to start either? This is my first DD too and I'm coming from a 15 y/o Logitech Momo so I'm facing a pretty steep learning curve.

Sim Racing Garage on YT has a quite long video on this gear and shows going through the process of tweaking the settings to get the feel he wants.

Problem is for those of new to the DD world is knowing what we want to achieve based on experience with other DD products and like you say, it's hard to know what to do in the Moza software and what to do in the sim. It's no problem finding info on how to setup Fanatec stuff in ACC for example so hopefully once more folks start using Moza products, similar suggestions will be forthcoming?

Hi. No. It's the opposite of what you think. If you limit the maximum force from the steering wheel menu, you will have clipping when you reach that maximum level. On the other hand, if you leave the maximum force in the steering wheel menu at 100% and you select the limit from the game, you will have room to reach cliping. It's the same as if you have a sound system and you turn the amp volume down and drive the input. It's like that with all wheels. Not only the DD bases

Moza after-sales support...or lack thereof is slowly turning into my worst fear.
My R9 with CS rim (received late August) started having an issue, wherein the upshift paddle would move normally but would intermittently not shift. Other times, it would get stuck on in software.
The issue could be seen in the Pithouse software, as well as many sims (RF2, AMS2, RRE, AC and ACC).
I made a video and put in a support request which started easily enough with Moza suggesting a few things.
I'd done most of the thing they suggested but went over them again.
Nothing corrected the issue.
I was asked repeatedly to perform steps I'd already been instructed to do and had reported were completed.
They then asked for a copy of the bill of sale, the barcode on the back of the wheel rim, the firmware and Pithouse versions.
All were the latest versions with screenshots supplied to validate.
I asked them to update me on where they wanted to go next in the troubleshooting process.
I am now in my eighth day of waiting since the last correspondence on the support ticket with no reply .
This is not good.

I assume you recalibrated the paddles? I had the same issue after a firmware update. After recalibrating the padels in the Moza pithouse software it worked flawlessly.

Oh boy. I am not thrilled with Moza and I haven’t recieved my order yet. After being told the order would process in 3-7 days with everything in stock, here we are now 12 days past the 7th day of processing (19 days and counting) and I have yet to receive my R9, new FSR Formula Wheel, and the host of accessories I ordered. Also was notified after repeated requests that the DD was shipping from a US distro center but then everything else is coming from China separately.

The email sent to me in response to my asking for some level of update was that I should be pleased to know my DD shipped with literally no mount or wheel lol my response was, thanks. I can’t wait to stare at the DD and pretend to actually install and use it.

I am hoping the driving experience is better than the ordering. But now I’m concerned. I’m fearing I’ll regret not spending the few hundred bucks more and getting all Sim Magic stuff.

People tend to only post about their bad experiences or problems but I've had nothing complete satisfaction and joy from the R9+GS I've had since May.

I think people expecting anything shipping from China to be quick should know better and with the release and demand for brand new products, did you ever consider Moza might be just a little temporarily overwhelmed?

When I purchased, I pre-ordered from a U.S. distributor (sim-motion) and waited until items were in stock. Saved me like $60 in shipping charges and I had a contact in the states to answer questions or address problems if I had any.

I trust your driving experience will be better than your ordering experience. The R9 is pretty great. Not that you'll get a better response but Moza does have a Discord. Link is on their website.

I wasn’t just complaining to complain. When the site says IN-STOCK : 3-7 DAYS TO PROCESS then you should probably ensure you deliver upon that. Or at min send some email coms to update. Which I got none of. I had to ask for status. I also hope the driving experience is better than the initial order process experience.

@Tiny.... Paddle calibration and wheel reset had been done numerous times but did not solve my issue.
Moza finally got back to me this morning and apologized for the lack of reply.
They indicated that an e-mail snafu on their end meant they did not get my response.
It seems weird because the ticket updated in real-time on their support site. It showed my response and video link.
In any event, they have gotten the ball rolling again.
They will be sending me the paddle switch and have supplied instructions for replacement.

My wheel took about sixteen days from order to delivery via DHL

Do MOZA wheels have automatic wheel steering lock as an option? I am impressed by the hardware, but can't find that setting anywhere in reviews or screen shots. It would be a deal-breaker for me as every sim I use/care about has auto lock support and so does my current Fanatec hardware. Would not give it up or use a single (unrealistic) rotation value or fiddle with settings every time I change vehicles. Thanks in advance for any reply with the answer.

My Moza saga continues lol

I finally received all my steering components I ordered and couldn’t be more excited. But of course. The one thing that they didn’t ship after telling me they did ship last week was the Moza mount! Hahah unreal. I guess I’ll stare at it a little while longer as I don’t want to just rig something up. I purposely purchased specific cut length profile to use the Moza side mount bracket. We will see what kind of half truth response I get this time after I have to reach out again because of course they only give me info when I first contact them.

Still hoping the product is better than their order fulfillment.

@marc.... You get a one button-click option to select the degree of rotation for the specific car in series.
You can also click to import created profiles.
The hardware is very nice and has a great feel once you get it dialed in.
I was just very unfortunate after two weeks to have had that failure.
I especially love the road feel in AMS2.
It is the cat's meow with the R9 and CS rim.
I'm awaiting my replacement PCB and shifter switch.
Look forward to getting up and racing again.

So, are you confirming it does not have automatic steering lock/rotation the way Fanatec, Logitech and most other wheels do?

I do not use this automatic steering lock/rotation feature so I'm not 100% certain but from what I have read, it is supported as it is in other products . There is also a setting in the Moza Pit House for how stiff you want you want soft limits to be which I believe is for in-game automatic steering rotation?

Well, if we can find a control panel screen shot that shows the setting.... It should be a toggle and presumably in the same area that has the rotation settings in degrees. You either set it to a fixed number of degrees, or, pick a maximum number of degrees and set it to automatic (or "controlled by game").

It's such an obvious thing if you want any degree (pun intended) of realism. Even within a game like ACC that simulates only one class of vehicles, there is quite a bit of variation from one vehicle to another. In a game like AMS/AMS 2 with everything from go karts to giant trucks, it's just ridiculous to try to keep track of all those different rotations.

I just asked on the Moza Discord and one of the admins confirmed that the auto lock/rotation things works like everything else. There is no specific setting for it, it just does has it.
