hi guys im new here and to sim racing and i,m loving it played assetto around 20 hrs in the last few days (the wifes not happy but hey you carnt please everyone all the time lol) i had my first club race friday and its hooked me, my question is ive been going on public lobbys but there only seems to be 1 good one out of 10 that dont just want to smash you off the track all the time, is there a race department server apart from club races that can be entered to be able to get quality racing or do i have to persist with the character building public lobbys

I think the only RD servers are those for the weekly organised races advertised here:

Assetto Corsa Racing Club

Daily casual club races for all skill levels and professional esport leagues for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.

As you're a premium member though you could try the Simracing.GP servers as there seems to be 2 or 3 races per day organised on there.
