Reverb G2: a worthy upgrade?

I do have a reverb G1. Willing to upgrade to a new VR headset. I mostly play AC and AMS2. Runs on an EVGA 3080. I only play racing sims in VR, nothing else.

With all being said, do you all think the reverb G2 will be a worthy upgrade over the G1? or should I just hold onto the G1 (or perhaps look at other VR headsets)?

I'd stick with what you have. I recently upgraded to a G2. After a few weeks, it failed. Still within the Amazon returns window so I sent it back for a full refund and returned to using my old VR headset - an Oculus Rift S. Honestly, whilst the higher resolution was impressive, the Oculus has better lenses and comfort for me, so I've decided to stick with the Rift S and not bother with another headset for now. Also the G2 just failed so I'm not filled with confidence about them!

VR, even with a great GPU like yours, at this point in time will have limitations, so if your G1 is OK I would not upgrade to anything until something really better comes up.
A little better resolution is not going to make it excellent, just a little better but still flawed, particularly once you get use the new resolution.
More resolution will make it harder on the GPU, which is already stretched with any VR at this point in time.
if you ever have to use lower graphic setting then the extra resolution is almost for nothing.
Truth is, with VR, once you accept and forget about the limitations, you can enjoy it for what it is, a spectacular immersion tool.
It will evolve, but at this point, a basic VR like G1, RiftS, CV1, with a good GPU, is good enough to rip the benefits, Save your money for something really worth it.

I agree, I have a rift s and a g2, I know plenty who stuck with the g1 and r happy. Id wait for valve deckard or whatever else not over priced is coming…with a 3080 surely u could just max the settings and up steam vr SS for a similar effect?

Another Rift S user here. I'm happy with it and I don't think I will consider replacing it with something better until I upgrade my old 1080 Ti, which is already on the limit with my settings for my current headset. However, there is a model that really tempts me: the Valve Index. Its resolution is just a little better, but not too much to be too hardware demanding. It also features a greater FOV, which will increase inmersion even more and also higher refresh rate, which is also welcome. It's a shame it's so terribly expensive. Have you tried it?

Yes I have tried the Index that a friend of mine has. Honestly did not like the resolution, although FOV is bigger. For me, in the racing games FOV is not critical but I found the resolution to be much more comforting and important. If Valve comes with a headset with a higher resolution keeping the same FOV that the current Index has, that will be killer set!

Try VR AMS1 (one) with Crewchief VR plugin and you'll be running higher resolution for half the performance cost and I'm not exaggerating by saying as a "like for like" in setting terms it's like a night and day difference compared to the likes of AMS2 and PC2 in VR - with AMS1 being far better...

Edit: 6700K and RTX 2070 Super, HTC Cosmos and 130% per eye in steam - 90FPS all day long and the steam VR performance graph is less than half when racing against 10 AI!
