Running 1060 3gb with i3 4130 CPU upgrade help.

@Simberia
Logically what is the best move now to upgrade the CPU to allow more AI etc on say AC?

Happy with how my PC has performed over the last few years but have some cash to upgrade and the 1060 is good enough for me, so CPU is the one to upgrade.

Any tips for best bang for bucks say if i was looking to run 20 odd AI on AC..cheers.

Was all running great til windows 1830 upgrade but now can run only about 12-16 AI on AC and stutters a bit...

Definitely an i5 at least if you're sticking with AMD, or maybe one of the Ryzen 5 chips if you feel like a change and want to give AMD's new lineup a try. The sweet spot gaming CPU for most people with decent graphics cards has always been the 4 core i5 variant, in whichever architecture is available at the time. So if you went with something like an i5 8600K you would be set for a while. There are options that are non overclockable that are a little cheaper. I think they run with a slower core and boost clock too, slightly, but even those ones will be a marked improvement over what you have.

Keep in mind you will most likely need a new motherboard to support the new CPU as Intel has a nasty habit of changing the socket every second release, which is when they typically make changes to the architecture and release a brand new (brand new is a pretty loose term with Intel, though) product line as opposed to just some optimisation and a die shrink to their current product.

You could eek more life out of your system by just upgrading to a I7 Haswell chip which will be supported by your motherboard. Look on eBay and you'll find dozens for sale. You'll be doubling the core count and increasing the core speed over your 4130. If you're sticking with a 1060 then this would be perfectly balanced. And no need to replace the motherboard and buy new memory.

Also you would be surprised how easily you can resell your old motherboard when the time comes to completely update the platform. I've done it with both motherboards and CPU's that are ages old. Bought some old ones too, to fit old motherboards I've had lying around for a budget build.

If money isn't a real factor and it's just bang for the buck + future proof:
I5/7 "k" variant with slight overclock. The 8700k is a beast. Really a step over anything else currently for gaming as the single thread performance is unbeatable!
I know some guys who upgraded from the i7 4970k (overclocked to up to 4.9 GHz!) to get a full grid of AI in VR above 90 fps all the time.

So if you got the money: sell your CPU, mobo and ram and get an 8700k.

Otherwise: what's said above. An i5 is a good and cheaper solution. Definitely giving you a boost!
The amd ryzen are awesome CPUs but our beloved sims are mostly single thread limited while the AMDs are only really competitive (or even better bang for the buck!) in multi core games like the newest assassin's creed, Witcher 3 and that stuff.

So how about this one?

Intel Core i5 4690 Processor

If i got it from ebay is it simple enough as for me just to replace and its all set up ready to go?

I honestly forgot and can't find again what CPU you currently have and what Motherboard exactly.
EDIT: Depending on your motherboard some features might be inactive. But you can 100% put it in and run it!
The 4690 is a nice CPU. Would it be the "k" one? The k one easily shaves off another +20-30% when you overclock it (decent air cooling and 4.5 GHz are no problem).
It should be plenty enough for 60+ fps with all combinations. Not enough for 90+ fps in VR.

EDIT: lol it was in the title...:geek::roflmao:

Yes it's a Haswell chip which is same line as your I3 4130 so it should be no problem. But first you need to check your motherboard has the latest Bios firmware and the motherboard manufacturer website lists that this processor is compatible. Also If your using a stock Intel heatsink then you'll want to replace that with something better.
