It simulates a 3D effect where scenery further away gets blurred (or at least softened) to create an effect like focussing on a specific plane, like the foreground for example. 3D movies do something similar, although through different technical means. For sharpness and clarity, yes. But af has some heavy performance impact in ac for some reason so 8x is what's recommended.wouldn't it be better to put the anisotropic filter at 16x?
