T300 to TS-PC, is it really a (big) step up?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of selling my T300 and buying a ts-pc racer.
I read the motor is more powerfull and that seems nice, but on the other hand I also read: "power isn't everything"....….

So, I can read a lot and you know how it is: when you look, you find anything you want.
Are there guys (or girls!!) here that have a ts-pc or even better; owned both?
Can you share with me what you think and if it is worth buying?

I would also wait for Thrustmaster's DD. I've been fairly impatient as of late, and am trying my best to hold out just a little longer. Even if it is stronger, the TS-PC racer is just another belt-driven wheel.

Hiyas Nav - While I´m itching for a new DD wheel....I gotta say, after 3-4 years on a TC-PC it´s been a really, really good wheel.

While it may be "just another belt-driven wheel" if you tune it "right", both in the TMCP and in-game, this wheel performs way ahead of it´s price-point.

As others have said however, be interesting to see TM´s entry into the DD market (price-point).

Like most hardware, the best time to buy is..........tomorrow ;-)

Probably Logitech owners who said that LOL. Look, a DD will completely change the way you feel the car and the road in a sim. Everything is multiple steps better than your T300 and also the TS-PC will be a joke compared. And more power is better (~J. Clarkson).

I started out with a T300 myself, now have a SC2 Sport since 2 years. It's day and night and you will not regret it. Going for a TS-PC will leave you curious to what a DD does. And eventually that could cost you more wanting to upgrade again after the TS-PC. What I did is save money for another year and then skipped the in-between step of 'yeah I know that a DD is better but it costs twice as much.' My T300 was working fine and so I accepted to use that for a year longer. Best sim decision I made.

I had a T300RS GT for about a year and a half. Mate of mine had a TS-PC and I've had a few drives with it. It's definitely a step up, more torque, more fine details. I was thinking about making the same upgrade to TS-PC you are pondering about. You can get the base itself for like 400 I believe which was a viable option for me since I had plenty of TM rims and good pedals, however I made the move to sell my T300 and rims and go straight to a DD from Simagic and haven't regretted that decision to this day. You'll have to decide for yourself if you want to go to the middle ground or skip straight to endgame.

Thank you for the reply's guys!

Now I know what to do and let me explain myself a bit.
I will state this one pretty "black and white" as it is the easy way; we all want to simrace and not read the rest of the day, right? ;)
My thoughts were always more or less: "mwah, it seems DD is overrated; a good belt driven wheel, with proper tension on the belts(!) doesn't have that much slack"........

But now "you all" come up with this and I don't have experience with DD; I would have to use one to know. But I have to listen to you; you guys know.

So; yes, I do want a DD now :)
But here's the financial part of it......
My T300 is about 10 months old and the round wheel and pedals were never used while the base is unscratched. I can sell this as "almost new".
I bought the set from a guy who buys them by the ten on an auction site; for me this had cost 275 euro. I got the invoice too.

Now, I have mine for sale and I can "pretty easily" make about the same money for it as I payed.
I will keep my F1 add-on. Also; I don't need pedals as I use the Logitech's which I "hard mounted" complete with a load cell in my rig.

Now, I found the same sort of guy, that sells the ts-pc base (all I need) for 300 euro. So, it will cost me just a little; 50 to 25 euro if I'm lucky.

Lets say a year from now, the DD is there, prices have dropped a bit, I see the same (sort of) guy on the Dutch eBay again; I really like to repeat the trick!!

And repeating that trick, then goes better with a ts-pc from again a year old, than with a 2 year old T300, right?

But; DD it is! ;)

Initially the T300s seemed to be having loads of issues.
There were pages and pages of guys throughout the various forums complaining of failures.
Thrustmaster got that resolved and the TS-PC is a testament to that.
With that said... It'd seem to me for the current price of a TS-PC Racer, you'd be better served with the Fanatec CSL DD 5nm base and a CSL universal hub.
The combined price...$500.
You could then buy any inexpensive steering wheel rim and bolt it all together.
It'd cost just a bit more but gain you entry to DD.

That's true, but this step right now, will cost me (if all goes well) 25 euro and I don't have to buy a new wheel itself.
The "current price of a ts-pc" is at this moment, for me, 300 euro.
I can't cough up that kind of money right now, so I have to make this middle-step.

Either get a CSL DD with the Boost Kit (not worth it without the boost kit), or wait for the Thrustmaster DD if that ever happens

If it's only 25eu then go for it. For the money that 1up is worth it!
And then you can also start to save up for a DD right away :)

Yeah,
if you really can do it for 25€ go for it.

I was on a T300 for 1,5 years and than wondered where to go from there.
As for me it would have been near MSRP for a TSPC or similar ( no way Fanatec crosses my path)
and I probably would have still wondered how DD would be I just took the plunge.
Now I have "the last wheel base I´ll ever buy" (HaHA ;)) and I´m happy with it.

About the CSL DD:
should you go this way take it with a Fanatec wheel, Universal Hub and generic wheel would be quite heavy.

Even on my SimuCube SC2 pro I can feel the difference between the carbon GT3 steering plank, the Thrustmaster Sparco 310 (which is lighter than the automotive one ) and an OMP dished wheel.
The bigger and heavier the wheel the more muted the FFP is, you can feel that even on 25nm "Hulk" wheelbase.
It´s not so much a question of power than more of fidelity and speed of the FFB.

MFG Carsten

I also agree with the others' suggestions to upgrade, just as long as you can truly do it for such a low price. It seems like a smart move to me.

Thanks for the reply's guys!
Please don't think I'm stubborn: you convinced me to get a DD and I WILL.
But for now; not the money. Buying a non-Thrustmaster makes me buy another wheel too, so I wait it out.

During this topic, I started to think about it and found this way, buying the ts-pc, as a stepping ladder for the DD when it comes out.
If all goes well, I pay 25 to 50 bucks now, save up for when the DD is there and try to repeat that trick again :)

For 25-50€, the ts-pc is a huge upgrade imo.
I had one for 2 weeks and there were only 2 issues for me:
- Coil whine from the motor during corners. I'm very sensitive to these kind of sounds so you might not even be able to detect that.

- no on/off button and the "brutal" calibration when it gets plugged in. I really like the button and silent calibration of my csw 2.5.

However the ts-pc felt better than the csw 2.5! Not as strong and not as smooth but the natural resistance against small movements really gives you a great feeling when driving almost straight. Dirt rally is awesome with it!
With the csw 2.5 the center will feel quite dead sadly..

It's faster, lot more power than the t300 and less annoying fans!

I tested a csl DD for a week a few months ago and it's a great base but the quick release and shaft clamp seem to have some issues, getting into the fanatec eco system will be expensive for you and the big upgrade to a simucube or simagic will lose you the plug and play compatibility of the thrustmaster base for almost every game.

So in my opinion:
Get that nice deal for the ts-pc. It'll make you very happy and grinning from left to right :)

Just a quick question for when I get the damn thing: there is no driver for just the base.....should I get the one from the "racer" version, eventhough I don't have that wheel?

It's in there!
Just drove one lap, my wife comes home any minute.....
But it feels way more powerful and the rest, I haven't had time to notice yet.
I will write that one later.

Just two quick questions I want to run by you guys:
- I can feel the teeth of the belt running......not skipping or something, but I just feel "rrrrrrrrrrr" a bit. Is that normal? Haven't noticed that on my T300?

- The led stays red. I thought after the 34 version, it would be green.
I do have the "boost" option, so it is pretty new.
Do I need to worry?
