VR tracking is off after 3080Ti install...

I've been racing mainly in iRacing for the last year with the G2 headset, a 1080Ti, i9-10900k. The G2 has been perfect straight out of the box - no issues with reliability, tracking, anything.

I just installed an Asus ROG Strix 3080Ti OC - and now the G2 tracking is constantly "floating" - I'm moving around in the cockpit. It does this in iRacing as well as ACC.

I've updated all the ASUS drivers on their website. I updated the G2 firmware. In Steam VR when I go to "Devices" -> "Update Device" - it shows as "Up to date". My Steam client is up to date. I don't know what else to do. I'm fairly new to building PCs - this was my first build, and I'm at a loss of where to turn to next. I'm hoping I don't have to go back to the 1080Ti because I'm loving the increased graphics quality!

Any advice?

If lighting didn't change, try to reset environment in WMR portal and do a fresh "retrace".

Thanks for the advice! I’m headed out of town right now - I’ll try this when I get back on Saturday.

Lighting didn’t change at all. Something weird though - when I first fired up the sims this morning it was jumping around so much it wasn’t driveable. I just kept driving though since I was so excited with the increase in detail on the track, in the cars, etc… hahaha! And the weird thing is that as I drove over the last couple hours, it slowly started improving. It’s now to the point where I can do a 15 min race and barely notice it. Just a few slight shifts over the race. I don’t know what that tells me about the issue.

Absolutely no knowledge about wmr and the g2 but could it be a power issue?

What psu do you have and did you connect the 3080ti with 2 independent power cables?

If your psu is at the limit or the motherboard pci-e slot power delivery, I could imagine that the USB power supply is fluctuating a little.
Alternatively the video output of the GPU. But that wouldn't make you jump around I'd think. This would give you black screens.

Why I'm thinking about a power issue:
When I switch a bigger light on/off or my audio receiver, my TV and monitor (both connected to my GPU) get a little black flash.
Nothing more than a short black moment but there's clearly some weird stuff going on with the power lines in combination with the hdmi and display port connections...

Solution: you could undervolt your 3080ti to keep the GPU from constantly running into the power limit, which makes the power spike a lot.
You won't lose many fps. Maybe 1-3% performance but you'll probably use about 100W less.

Here's a good and simple guide on it. I did it the same way with my 3080 and it works like a charm :)

It's 3, but it's WMR tracking issue, been there.

Definitely sounds like a WMR tracking issue to me. What continues to irritate me here is the need to launch the WMR portal, get in the headset and make sure its tracking properly in 3D as it often starts off just with rotation tracking until it locks on. Then you can launch SteamVR and you should check that again to make sure full tracking is in place and finally then you can launch the game. Its a faff but its only reliable way I know to end up in game with full tracking in place.

Does sound like a reset of the tracking and floor and such is a good idea at this point, no idea why a GPU change would cause that but tracking is definitely off if you are floating about.
