VR vs. Ultrawide

Hi guys,

So, any of you have gone from VR back to single monitor, maybe UW?

I've been blissfully driving AC1 in VR for 3 years, and obviously ACC is a little tough on an older system like my 1080ti/4690K.
Very much enjoying new life in AC with Sol and recent updates, mods etc, while also there's always a race to find, SRS still running strong, RD racing is fun and so on.
But, I had to try ACC with 1.2, and I really want to drive it, but regardless of settings, it's just not there in VR @45fps. And that's just hotlapping.
I've watched a few YT videos on people who prefer monitor over VR, but I haven't found any specific on VR-simmers converting back to singlemonitor. Obviously, these days the ultrawide is the new black, and it's tempting to get the ACC experience in full.

Anybody made the switch back? Thoughts?

Cheers

I just couldn't face the possibility of going back to single screen. Loosing depth perception would be a big red flag for me. Not being able to look around would also ruin the immersion for me. But most of all VR is a neater setup for me. I can't leave my rig set up, I need to be able to break it down and store it. VR requires a very minimal rig because I'm not trying to mount a monitor.

So I bought a 2070 super, hoping that gives significantly more performance, I don't think I'm as picky about graphics and frame rates as others.

Reason ACC collecting dust, I just can't make it run half decent in VR.
Screen, even big one, I have 42" 4K, just doesn't cut it. :(
Damn you, VR.

I have both ultrawide and a VR headset, albeit a low end Lenovo Explorer. I never really got on with VR, at least not so far. It makes me feel a bit nauseous and I don't like the messing about to get the thing working. I just want to hop in and go. So I went for a 49" super ultrawide. With that I get great immersion and I can be up and running instantly (particularly given how quickly ACC starts up). So personally I prefer it. I haven't yet ruled out VR, and when I upgrade my PC in a couple of years time, I might look at it again, but right now I'm very happy with my massive monitor.

I tried to get on with VR for a while, in the end the discomfort, nausea and lack of resolution made me return to my monitor. My eyesight is also quite poor, I’m very shortsighted, current VR wasn‘t really ideal.

If things improve significantly I’d give VR another go, as things stand I’m looking to buy a larger monitor, I have a 27 atm.

Oculus latest update kills VR in ACC, you need to apply a work around to reverse the oculus update. I also have a 1080ti and I love my VR experience in ACC.

I raced with VR, however I found it too blurry for me as I am a stickler on high graphic quality. I went from a 32" Ultra wide monitor to a 50" television with the 'Gaming Mode' three feet in front of my face. Love it, no lag, great clarity, and I just map 'Look Left/ Right' to my wheel. Maybe down the road again in the future for VR, however totally satisfied with my 4K television.

I changed VR to 32:9. I absoultly love the immersion of VR, but two things made me change it: 1. is the picture quality..... it is just making me tired after longer races. 2. Still unknow territory when it comes to our eyes health. I decided to wait few years.
After half a year of changing to 32:9 I am very satisfied. It lack the immersion, but it aint that bad. Now I see whats far away from me. And the perfromance of the game rised.

@Tberg , you may find this discussion somewhat relevant to your question

after picking up a Predetor 35 inch superwide cheap from a mate I now mainly use the screen for ACC, still go back to AC for my VR fix but can't be doing with 45fps in ACC with things turned right down

So I tried ACC in Practice mode, with these settings:

It's ok in Practice, add cars (10) quick race and it just gets blurry enough to be annoying.

As mentioned I'm i5-6600K, 8GB DDR4, 1080 Hybrid.

Any things I can do with Oculus, PC software or the game to make it better or is it only PC hardware upgrades that will improve the performance? If so what do you guys recommend?

Thanks.

I'm on a 9600K at 4.9 with a 2070 Super, can't get it looking acceptable at 90fps hotlapping let alone a race
