NEED FOR SPEED With their first game release of The Need for Speed in 1994, Electronic Arts started one of the most successful racing game franchises of all time. The games of the series have since captivated the community with top-notch racing-action, customized cars, impressive drifts and thrilling pursuits fleeing from the law – even in the single player. Electronic Arts has announced a remastered version of 1998's Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit which can be eagerly expected for November 2020. F1 2020 F1 2020 was released on July 6 by Codemasters and is this year's title accompanying the Formula 1 and 2 Championships. The newest addition to the series is playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and enables players to race their own championships. Unlike F1 2019, this year's edition does not include a story feature, but the opportunity to assemble and manage a racing team in the mode "My Team". This enables players to build their own organization in the racing industry from scratch and therefore offers a lot to do in the single player alone. FORZA HORIZON 4 Forza Horizon 4 is an open world racing game published by Microsoft Studios in 2018. Playable on Xbox One and PC, the game lets players roam a virtual United Kingdom and take on different racing challenges in scenery with changeable seasons and weather. Every season in the game lasts one week in real time and brings about new driving conditions on the terrain, keeping the player busy even in offline mode. Art of Rally Published by Funkselektor Labs Inc. in September 2020, Art of Rally is one of the newest additions in the scene of arcade games – and a homage to the history of rallying. Its makers made the optics refer to the chunky and minimalistic graphics of rally games, but combined it with a stunning color scheme that can well be described as a visual love letter to rallying. With over 40 vehicles to race in and integrated time trial and leaderboards, the PC-game offers a lot to single player-racers. TRACKMANIA Ubisoft's Trackmania is one of the most popular esports arcade titles around – but the game does not require the multiplayer mode to be fun. Featuring endless different maps and the editor mode where players can create their very own tracks to race on, the title provides massive amounts of content that can excite any player on their own. Tech Maps challenge racers to maximize their mechanical racing skills while Speed or Circuit Maps motivate to minimize lap times. The first game of the series was released in 2003 and is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii and even Nintendo DS. PROJECT CARS 3 The Project CARS series, developed by Slightly Mad Studios and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, made its debut in 2015. The third game of the franchise received a sequel in 2017, building up to the third part of the series that has been on the market since this year. Project CARS 3 has a lot to offer even in single player mode: over 140 global circuits, customizable cars and an enhanced artificial intelligence to race against will keep racers busy. In 2019, the franchise was purchased by Codemasters who designed the third addition to the series to have some arcade features that its predecessors did not have. For that reason among others, cars do not require pitstops, providing players with a less realistic, yet still entertaining experience. THE CREW 2 In Ubisoft's The Crew 2, players are free to roam a virtualized version of the USA in the shoes of an ambitious young racer trying to become the best in various racing disciplines. Accordingly, the player is able to control multiple kinds of vehicles, including cars, motorcycles and aircrafts. Although the game also places a high emphasis on multiplayer, it has a lot to offer in solo mode as well, providing a challenging artificial intelligence to race against. The title was published in 2018 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC – a version for the Nintendo Switch will be added in 2021.
