A vast number of sim racing games on the market include a rally feature for the player to enjoy racing on uneven terrain and under challenging circumstances. We took a good look at the games available up until now and selected the top seven ones that are definitely worth a shot.

DiRT 4

DiRT 4 was launched by Codemasters in 2017. Unlike the series DiRT Rally, this spin-off is intended to appeal to a more casual audience and therefore includes features of an arcade game. For example, DiRT 4 introduced a ‘Gamer-Mode’ with simpler controls for a less serious and overall easier gameplay experience. The ‘Sim-Mode’ on the other hand allowed a more realistic and therefore serious approach to the game, which is playable on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. A fifth edition of the series will be released on November 6, 2020.

DiRT Rally 2.0

The newest addition to the racing simulation series DiRT Rally was launched in 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and provides players with finest sim racing content. It was launched in 2019 and seamlessly continues the line of realistic racing simulations. Newest additions include locations and vehicles, an overall improved racing experience and an online mode that allows to take on AI and community challenges and, on the highest scale, to participate in rallycross championships.

World Rally Championship 9

Sony released the newest part of the successful World Rally Championship franchise in September 2020. The ninth game of the series is simultaneously the official one for the 2020 World Rally Championship and presents the most realistic sim racing experience on the market — including everything from engine sounds to ground texture. It is playable on PC, PS 4 and Xbox One.

iRacing is a subscription-based online racing simulation. Published by Motorsport Simulations, it has been undergoing stable updates and adjustments, the latest one in September 2019. In the same year, the site had also hosted the Rallycross World Championship, securing its standing as one of the most important and biggest sim racing titles featuring rallying.

Forza Horizon 4

Forza Horizon 4 is a racing simulation which was published in 2018 by Microsoft Studios and is available for Xbox One and PC. Its most unique characteristic is the open world-feature which allows the player to freely discover a virtualized United Kingdom with a unique story and shifting seasons. As the player is free to roam the map, several challenges like rally racing will await them. A fifth part of the series has been announced for fall 2020.

Richard Burns Rally

Richard Burns Rally is an absolute classic on the market of sim racing rally games. First released in 2004 by SCi Games, the game had fantastic graphics for that point in time and still amazes countless gamers to date. It was released for PlayStation 2, Windows PC and Xbox and is an absolute must-try for any virtual rally racer.

Dakar 18

Dakar 18 has been on the market since September 2018. The game was published by Bigmoon Entertainment and intended to be the digital version of the annual Dakar Rally event hosted by Amaury Sport Organisation (A.S.O.) in South America. The simulation offers a variety of playable vehicles and an offline- as well as an online-mode for the players to enjoy.
