Something for which many simracers have long been waiting has finally happened. That’s right, the Brazilian-developed sim Automobilista 2 now has mod support! In case you aren’t aware, this makes modding for the game far easier than it ever has been in the past, and it means that players who own the game will now be able to access third-party content to expand their experience on the sim. However, while it is now supported, there are still a few steps you’ll need to go through to get your mods working. Our latest video guides you through the process.

How to Get Community-Created Content

The first thing you’ll need to do is to ask yourself what exactly it is that you’re wanting to mod into your game. Are you looking for skins or liveries for your cars? Perhaps you want to add new AI drivers with custom names so you can race against Ayrton Senna or Michael Schumacher in AMS2? Or maybe you want to get yourself some entirely new cars which aren’t available in the base game?

Depending on what type of mod you are attempting to install, there are different processes that you will have to undertake. If you want new AI drivers or liveries for your already existing cars, then you shouldn’t have much difficulty at all. Head to Race Department, the best website on which to find mods for Automobilista 2 and download the mod that takes your fancy. The file will be compressed, so make sure you have either 7Zip or WinRar so that you can unpack the files you have downloaded.

Then, navigate to your Automobilista 2 installation path. From there, you can simply drag the files into your Automobilista 2 folder, et voila, your mods are ready to use! However, if you want to bring something a bit more significant into the game, such as a whole new car, then you’ll have to jump through rather more hoops.
