Assetto Corsa Competizione 1.9.6 Update and GT2 Pack: All You Need To Know

Assetto Corsa Competizione 1.9.6 Update and GT2 Pack - All You Need To Know.jpg
Version 1.9.6 for Assetto Corsa Competizione on PC is now live as a free update, complementing the paid-for GT2 DLC pack.

By now we hope you are up to speed with Assetto Corsa Competizione’s new paid-for DLC: the GT2 pack.

Following weeks of teasers, it includes a new category for the simulation, six fresh cars and the Red Bull Ring venue for use across all vehicle types.

We took part in a live stream launch event, with Michel and Yannik from the team live on Twitch last night against a grid of beloved content creators. We also have also published our hands-on impressions and video review, which you can watch below.

This is all very well, but there are some smaller details modified that impact the whole of the ACC experience. We’ve sifted through the patch notes and picked out some important details and also some interesting quirks.

Key Assetto Corsa Competizione 1.9.6 Update Changes

GT World Challenge 2023 Menu Option

Now, when selecting a car, you can select the 2023 season. This is notable because before the 1.9.6 update the 2023-spec cars released in the previous DLC pack – Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2, Ferrari 296 GT3 and Porsche 911 (992) GT3 R – were within the Open Series option.

Now, they are within the correct year and are also joined by older-spec cars still used in competitions last season. They now have 2023-season liveries and drive line-ups to boot.

2023-Season GT3 liveries

There are 11 cars with new liveries now added from the prior season via the 1.9.6 update, irrespective of purchasing the GT2 pack or not. Although, rather obviously, to unlock all designs, you must own all the GT3 cars with some tied up in additional DLC sets.

With this in mind, here’s every 2023-season GT3 livery now in Assetto Corsa Competizione:

New GT3 and GT4 Balance of Performance

One line in the latest ACC patch notes reads as follows:

“General revision of BOP for GT3 and GT4 classes.”

Following the version 1.9 update early last year, over time the competitive nature of the platform sees competitors looking for physics exploits, and perhaps more obviously, the ideal car and track combinations.

With BoP being as it is, certain vehicles will favour certain scenarios, and once this is figured out it can become widely adopted when selecting vehicles.

While developer Kunos Simulazioni does not release specific changes, a tweak in this department could be significant for those competing in leagues and top-tier esports competitions – some of which run custom BoP adjustments. We suspect these must now be recalculated.

Key Assetto Corsa Competizione GT2 DLC features

The first DLC pack for Assetto Corsa Competizione in 2024 includes a new category of vehicle, GT2, with six new cars plus the Red Bull Ring circuit. The track can be used across all car classes and game modes.

GT2 Pack Car List

As previously discussed, here are the new vehicles:
  • Audi R8 LMS GT2
  • KTM X-Bow GT2
  • Maserati MC20 GT2
  • Mercedes-AMG GT2
  • Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport Evo
  • Porsche 935 (2019)
Assetto Corsa Competizione GT2 Livery Selection, AMG
Some of the GT2 teams available within Assetto Corsa Competizione for the Mercedes-AMG

For each, there are 2023 GT2 European Series liveries and drivers, although it’s worth noting that the Maserati has the least as it only debuted during the season’s final round.

However, that’s not all you can race in the GT2 grouping…

Lamborghini and Ferrari in GT2 Class

Yes, that’s right, the existing Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo and Lamborghini Huracán ST EVO2 from one-make championships can be added to GT2 races.

This is because in the real world, during the GT2 European Series, these vehicles have been used despite not fully conforming to the classification or being built from the ground up at GT2 machines.

Assetto Corsa Competizione GT2 Lamborghini and Ferrari
Yes, the evergreen one-make Lamborghini and Ferrari are now also part of the GT2 category

Both were part of the 2022 Challengers Pack DLC and were in the Open Series category only until this latest update. So, if you own both that download, plus the new GT2 set, here are two additional cars to add to a grid.

George Morgan commentary

If you listen carefully while sitting in the Red Bull Ring’s pitlane you will hear some commentary taken from the real world and placed into ACC.

Those are the thumping sounds of Welsh commentator Geroge Morgan, who casts sim racing events such as ESL R1 and PSGL alongside motorsport.

How Much Does Assetto Corsa Competizione’s GT2 Pack Cost?

The GT2 Pack for ACC is priced at €17.99/$17.99/£14.99.

Will the Red Bull Ring and GT2 cars be released for PlayStation and Xbox?

We suspect the GT2 Pack will make its way to console versions of Assetto Corsa Competizione as all prior DLCs have. But, as it stands, there has been no formal confirmation.

Have you noticed any other changes with the latest ACC update? Have you purchased the GT2 Pack? Let us know in the comments below or in our forum.
