Own GTR2, can I use the Steam version for Free?

I have a couple GTR2 licenses. I would like to install the steam version so I can try CC. Does anyone know if there is a way to use my license and install the steam version for free. This has worked with other games but so far I am unable to get steam to take my license code.

It looks like @GTR233 has done something with the HQ Anniversary Patch that allows it to work:

When you can I'd recommend buying either GTR2 from Steam (it's less than $10) either on its own or when the SimBin Mega Bundle comes on sale (includes GTR, GTR2, GT Legends, Race 07, and all DLC - super deal).

if you have a valid CD key, you can ask STEAM to verify it and you get GTR2 for free in your STEAM library

you do not need the STEAM GTR2 version to run CC, there is a plugin for the GTR2 NoCD version (which works also with GTL & RACE07)
